James Davidson born circa 1853 son of John Davidson. He was a gardener living at Greenfield,
Coolock when he married Elizabeth Donnelly on 29.08.1877 at the Parish Church, Bray. Elizabeth
was resident at St Helen’s, Meath Road, Bray and was the daughter of Peter Donnelly, a land
steward. By 1887 James was a gardener working at Kilmacud. James died 06.02.1899 at the Royal
Hospital late of Kilmacud. Elizabeth, a servant died at Loughlinstown Workhouse on 30.03.1907
late of Stillorgan. Both are buried at Deansgrange.
1 William John Davidson born 16.04.1879 at Malahide. William an unmarried gardener lived
at 6.4 Hollyfield Buildings in Rathmines in 1911 with his brother Eugene. He was living at the
gatelodge of The Grange in 1926 and worked for the Lewis-Crosbie family. William died a
bachelor on 06.06.1930 aged 50 years at the Adelaide Hospital late of the Grange gatelodge,
Stillorgan. Rev Lewis Crosby made the funeral arrangements and he is buried at Deansgrange.
2 Michael Robert Davidson born 15.05.1881 in Coolock. Michael a labourer of Goatstown
Cottage, Dundrum married Eleanor Cooper on 5 Jun 1923 at Stillorgan Parish Church.
Eleanor was living at Dunstaffnage Cottage and was the daughter of Patrick Cooper, a butler.
Robert was a road worker with the Council and they lived with his brother William at the
gatelodge of The Grange.
3 James Samuel Davidson born 18.05.1883 at Malahide. James was a farm labourer in 1901.
He was living at Neilstown and working for the Rural District Council when he married Mary
Anne Doyle at St John the Baptist Church, Blackrock on 6 Jun 1909. Mary was living at
Galloping Green and was the daughter of James Doyle, a labourer and his wife Elizabeth
Elverd. They lived at Drummartin and had at least three children but only their daughter
survived to adulthood. James died 17.07.1949 at St Columcille's Hospital late of Goatstown.
Mary died at 9 Drummartin Terrace, Dundrum on 26.08.1952, her son in law James Boyce
the informant. Both are buried at Deansgrange.
1 Elizbeth Mary Davidson born 20.07.1920 at Goatstown. She was a domestic servant
when she married James Boyce on 10.07.1946 at Holy Cross Church, Dundrum. James
was a gardener resident at 10 Beaufield Cottages, Stillorgan and was the son of Patrick
Boyce, a labourer.
4 Eugene John Davidson born 25.05.1885 at Glenageary Park. Eugene enlisted with the Royal
Dublin Fusiliers. He served from 05.09.1908 to 30.12.1910. In 1911 he was a gardener living
at 6.4 Hollyfield Buildings in Rathmines in 1911 with his brother William. Eugene appears to
have used the name John for a number of years. John a soldier living at Kinsale married Nellie
Jacob on 06.03.1916 at Our Lady of Refuge Church in Rathmines. Nellie was living at Ranelagh
and was the daughter of Joseph Jacob, a bootmaker. Eugene and Ellen had a least five children
and lived at the Curragh Camp in Co Kildare where Ellen died on 28.10.1926.
Eugene a widower and gardener secondly married Margaret Rogers a widow on 20.01.1934
at St Patricks Parish Church, Powerscourt. Margaret was living at Count Brook, Enniskerry and
was the daughter of James Price, a coachman. Margaret died on 04.11.1946 at the County
Home, Rathdrum late of Enniskerry. Eugene died 04.02.1949 aged 64 years at the Meath
Hospital and is buried at Deansgrange.
5 Rupert Davidson born 03.06.1887 and baptised at St Brigid’s, Stillorgan. Rupert died of
typhoid fever on 29.12.1900 aged 13 years and is buried at Deansgrange.
6 Francis Henry Davidson born 30.07.1889 at Stillorgan baptised at St Brigid’s, Stillorgan. He
died at The Cripples Home** in Bray on 13.11.1894.
7 Jeremiah (Gerald) Davidson born 11.07.1891 and baptised at St Brigid’s, Stillorgan. Jeremiah aged
19 years was a footman in 1911 for Hercules Edward Rowley, 4th Baron Langford at Summerhill
Demesne, Co Meath. Jeremiah emigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1913.
8 David Octavius Davidson born 01.12.1893 and baptised at St Brigid’s, Stillorgan. David enlisted
with the Royal Dublin Fusiliers in Newtownmountkennedy and was killed in action on 23.10.1916.
He is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France and on Ireland's National Roll Of
Honour.
9 Albert Davidson born 14.07.1896 and baptised at St Brigid’s, Stillorgan. Albert aged 15 years
was a farm servant in 1911 with the Crampton family at Blackditches Lower, Togher, Wicklow.
He married Isabella Thornton on 11 Jul 1922 at Stillorgan Parish Church. Bella was the daughter
of George Thornton, gardener at Mount Merrion Demesne. Albert and Bella lived in Mount
Merrion cottages with her mother and Albert was a foreman working for the County Council.
10 Kathleen Victoria Davidson born 02.12.1897 and baptised at Stillorgan Parish Church. Kathleen
was a pupil at the Female Orphan School, Glasnevin in 1911. She was living at Corkagh,
Clondalkin at the time of her brother David’s death in 1916. She emigrated in 1920 to New
York. She married and divorced James McCausland and they had no children. She applied
for naturalisation in the United States in 1931 having previously lived in Toronto.

application.
