Crowe family of Melfield, Blackrock
Michael Frederick Crowe 3rd son of Daniel and Catherine Crowe married Isabella Eleanor Frazer 4th
daughter of William Steward Frazer an Apothecary formerly of Limerick. Michael attended the Royal
Dublin Society’s School of Drawing in Architecture from February 1830 and worked in the family building
firm of Daniel Crowe and sons of 53 Great Brunswick Street, Dublin until the death of his father in 1859.
The firm built Trafalgar Terrace in Monkstown designed by J S Mulvany which remained in the ownership
of the family for many years. After his fathers death, the partnership was dissolved. His brother
William continued to trade as Daniel Crowe and Sons and went bankrupt in 1870. Michael and his brother
George formed a new partnership called Crowe brothers and they operated from 55 Great Brunswick
Street.
They continued working on railway projects and in 1862 completed Sligo railway station under the direction
of the architect George Wilkinson, this was one of 9 rail projects they had in hand on the line between
Longford and Sligo. They also contracted to the architect Charles Geoghegan and built The Royal Bank at
Arran Quay and a managers house for The Mining Company of Ireland at the Ballycoras Smelting and
Shot Works. In 1864 Michael and George dissolved their partnership and Michael traded alone as Crowe
Brothers and retired in 1868.

2 Katherine Maud Crowe born circa 1854 Cork living at Melfield in 1911 with her sisters. Katherine
died unmarried on 15.11.1935 aged 82 at 113 Leeson Park.
3 Charlotte Florence Crowe born 13.03.1855 of 55 Great Brunswick Street died on 26.03.1912 aged
55 years at the Meath Hospital. Burial at Old Graveyard, Monkstown.
4 Isabella F Crowe born circa 1857 in Westmeath living at Melfield in 1911 with her sisters died
unmarried on 21.10.1917 aged 59 years at the Meath Hospital late of Melfield.
5 Daniel Crowe born 24.05.1858 at 55 Great Brunswick Street MB B.Ch Trinity College married Clara
Marston daughter of John Marston a Coach Builder of Knowle on the 01.09.1892 at the Parish
Church, Knowle, Warwick. In 1901 the family were living in Shilton Village, Warwickshire. Daniel
died of pneumonia on 27.02.1908 at his residence Langlands, Cleobury Mortimer, Salop.

of the Grange. Eleanor living at Melfield in 1911 with her sisters. Edward died on 07.08.1917 at
Royal Naval Barracks, Chatham. Eleanor died on 20.02.1920 at Melfield.
9 Susanna Frederica Crowe born 15.07.1867 at 55 Brunswick Street died unmarried on 20.03.1959
aged 91 years at Knockrath, Greystones.
