Thomas Cosgrave a shoemaker of 46 Ross Road, Enniscorthy, Co Wexford and son of John Cosgrave, a
mason married Margaret Tobin, daughter of Patrick Tobin, a labourer at Enniscorthy RC Church on
30 Sep 1866. They lived in Enniscorthy until circa 1872 when they moved to Wexford Town. Thomas
died on 20 Oct 1893 and the family had moved to Kilmacud by 1901. Margaret died on 24 Sep 1905 at
Sir Patrick Dun’s Hospital, late of Stillorgan Village and she was buried at Deansgrange.
1 Catherine (Kate) Cosgrave born 1 Dec 1867 at New Street, Enniscorthy married John Maguire, a
van man and son of John Maguire, a sea man at Kilmacud Church on 1 May 1898. Catherine
was a servant in 1898. She died 16 Aug 1906 of TB at Stillorgan and was buried at Deansgrange.

John secondly married Elizabeth Beggs of 4 Lower Pembroke Street, daughter of John Beggs, a
coachman on 24 Jan 1909 at St Andrew's Chapel, Westland Row.
2 Anne Cosgrave born 20 Aug 1870 at Ross Road, Enniscorthy married Michael Byrne, son of
Garrett Byrne, a labourer at Kilmacud Church on 15 Sep 1901. Michael was a labourer working
at St John of God.
1 Mary Agnes Byrne born 5 Aug 1902 at Kilmacud.
3 Mary Agnes Cosgrave born 30 Jul 1873 at Selskar, Wexford married John Doyle, a labourer living
at Dundrum and son of James and Eliza Doyle of Clonegal, Co Carlow at Kilmacud Church on
7 Jan 1900.
4 Bridget Josephine Cosgrave born 5 Mar 1876 married Maurice Doyle, a waiter at St John of God
and son of Maurice and Mary Doyle at Kilmacud Church on 1 Nov 1898 and was living at Moore’s
Cottages in Kilmacud in 1901. Bridget died 31 May 1936 at the Meath Hospital and Maurice died
on 15 Dec 1957 at the Royal Hospital, both were buried at Deansgrange.
5 John Cosgrave born 10 Dec 1878. His father died in 1893 and they moved to Kilmacud. He
was living at 6 Kilmacud Road when he married Ellen Traynor daughter of William Traynor and
Bridget Furlong of Newtownbarry on 12 Jan 1908 at the Church of Our Immaculate Lady of Refuge
in Rathmines.
It is thought that Ellen had a child called Patrick Traynor in 1897 who was working as a grocer’s
messenger and boarding with the Murphy family of Newtownbarry in 1911. Ellen died on
21 Feb 1919 aged 42 at the Loughlinstown workhouse, late of 120 New Buildings Deansgrange
and was buried at Deansgrange with her infant daughter and her mother in law.

a shop assistant of Church Street married Mary Agnes Benton, daughter of John Benton, a
labourer at the Church of St Therese on Donore Avenue on 5 Jul 1933.
2 Margaret (Maggie) Cosgrave born 9 Nov 1910 at Kilmacud, Mary Traynor present at birth.
Maggie died 23 Sep 1911 at 120 Deansgrange Cottages and was buried at Deansgrange
with her grandmother.
3 William Cosgrave born 16 Jun 1912 at Deansgrange married Mary Anne Gallagher,
daughter of Edward Gallagher, a labourer on 8 Mar 1936 at St Paul’s Arran Quay. William
was working at boot repair and living at 55 Benburb Street. Mary Anne died 28 Apr 1956 at
Kevin Street Hospital, late of 1 Pim Street aged 43.
4 Bridget Ellen Cosgrave born 9 Apr 1914 at Deansgrange.
John was living at 120 Deansgrange Cottages when he secondly married Mary Kavanagh, daughter
of Bernard Kavanagh at Cabinteely Church on 4 Aug 1920. His brother in law Maurice Doyle was a
witness to the marriage and it is thought that John had four children from his second marriage. Mary
died at St Columcille’s Hospital, Loughlinstown late of 48 St Brigid’s Park on 22 Dec 1955 aged 55 and
was buried at Deansgrange. John died at the Royal Hospital Donnybrook, late of 48 St Brigid’s Park,
Foxrock on 5 Jul 1960 and was buried with his second wife.
6 Patrick Cosgrave born 28 Oct 1881 at Abbey Street, Wexford. Patrick was a van driver.
