Percy Joseph William Considine baptised 27 May 1861 at Templebredin, Co Limerick
son of Heffernan Considine and Eliza Mary McMahon. He was educated at
Stonyhurst College, Blackburn. He married Frances Mary Kelly on 8 Sep 1896 at St
Mary’s Haddington Road. Frances was resident at 60 Waterloo Road and the
daughter of Frederick Challenger Kelly, a wine merchant of Gardiner Street. They
lived at the Ranch, Sandford Road. Frances died in childbirth on 20 Aug 1897 at
The Ranch, Sandford Road.
1 Percy Joseph Frederick Considine born 20 Aug 1897 at Sandford Road. He
was educated at Bedford Grammar School, Bedford, Bedfordshire and HMS
Conway, naval training school stationed on the Mersey. He attained the rank
of Lieutenant in the Royal Navy Reserve. He fought in the First World War. He
emigrated to South Africa in 1923. He married Mae White, daughter of Edward
White, on 23 Jan 1926 and was living in the Transvaal SA in 1927.
Percy secondly married Carmen Gertrude Kelly (Frances’ younger sister born in
Glenageary) at Rathgar RC Church on 8 Feb 1900. They were living at Sandford Road in
1901 and Percy was the manager of a newspaper, printing and publishing company.
One of their publications was The Constabulary Gazette. They lived at Holywell Cottage
from 1901 to 1906. By 1909 they were living in Shefford Bedfordshire. Percy
emigrated with his son Fred to South Africa in 1923. Carmen travelled to South Africa
in 1927 and died at Waterval SA on 29 Aug 1927. Percy a retired general farmer died
14 Aug 1946 at Sea Point Nursing, Cape Town. He left 1700 in personal estate which
was divided between children Fred, Marie and Carmen.
2 Frederick Francis Mary (Fred) Considine born 20 Nov 1901 at Holywell, Dundrum,
Co Dublin attended Bedford Grammar School in 1909. He was living with his
father in Chelmscote Farm, Soulbury, Bedfordshire in 1921. Frederick married
Jean Victoria Windlaw in Bangalore, India on 4 Apr 1931. Jean was the second
daughter of Rev George P K Winlaw of the Rectory, Telscombe. Fred was a
mining engineer and worked in Lagos, Nigeria and Sekondi-Takoradi, Ghana
(Gold Coast). He died in Suffolk in 1971.
3 Marie Carmen Frances Considine born 30 Apr 1908 at Lodge Park, Tivoli Road in
Kingstown. She married Dr Reginald Arthur Hickley a widower and son of Dr
Arthur Mackenzie Hickley, on 10 Sep 1937 at Potgietersrust, Soutpansberg,
Transvaal, Suid-Afrik. They lived in the Cape Province SA.
4 Elsie Considine born 3 June 1909 in Dinard, France died a spinster on
4 Aug 1930 at Pretoria Hospital late of Waterval PO, Hanglip, Potgietersrust, SA.
5 Carmen Helen Doherty Considine born 6 Feb 1911 at Shefford, Bedfordshire a
spinster in 1946.
