Johnathan David Clarke born circa 1770 first son of David Clarke of Aungier Street and his wife
Catherine Odlum. His older sister Catherine Clarke born 1769 married John Keine a linen
draper in 1788. John Keine died in 1796 and his sister Catherine married secondly Robert
Paterson of Belfast in 1797.
He was educated at Trinity and admitted Kings Inns. He married Elizabeth (Eliza) Thomas on
17.10.1797 at St Peter's Church, Dublin. He was appointed Counsel to the Board of Excise in
1826. Jonathan a barrister of Merrion Square South and Le Bergerie, Portarlington, Queen's
County was on the Vestry of St Peter’s. Jonathan died at his residence in Merrion Square on
29.03.1846. Eliza died at Le Bergerie, Portarlington on 26.08.1849.
1 Anne Clarke eldest daughter born circa 1798 died 26.05.1872 unmarried at Prince
Edward Terrace Blackrock. James Clarke of Hermitage the informant.
2 Catherine Clarke second daughter born at Aungier Street baptised 14.08.1799 at St
Peter's. Katherine died unmarried on 14.09.1849 at Le Bergerie, Portarlington,
Queen's County,
3 Jonathan David Clarke born at Aungier Street baptised at St Peter's on 26.10,1803. He
was a lawyer and died on 24.06.1826 aged 23 years at Norfolk Street, Strand.
4 Caroline Clarke born at Aungier Street baptised at St Peter's on 30.07.1805.
5 Isabella Maria Clarke born at Aungier Street baptised at St Peters on 30.01.1810.
6 Benjamin James Clarke baptised 18.12.1814. He took Holy orders. Benjamin of Tuam
married Henrietta Elizabeth Gresson daughter of Rev George L Gresson of 30 Upper
Merrion Street on 20.09.1853 at St Peter’s Church, Dublin. Benjamin died 22.07.1871 at
Lissavelley Rectory, Galway. Oath of George Gresson of Glencairn, Sandyford.
7 Richard Thomas Clarke baptised at St Peter's on 09.08.1817.
8 James Thomas Clarke born 08.03.1819 baptised at St Peters on 12.04.1819. James a
solicitor of Hermitage, Cross Avenue, Booterstown married Harriet Redfern 25.10.1860
at Edgbaston Church, Warwickshire. Witnesses: C Redfern and Matilda Ann Redfern.
Harriet was the second daughter of Clement Cotterill Redfern and Matilda née Solomon
of Edgbaston. The family lived at Hermitage from 1860 to 1872 and James was a member
of the RHS in 1861. By 1881 the family had moved to England. Harriet died on
19.06.1892 late of Spring Lodge. As youngest and only surviving son, James died on
09.03.1905 aged 86 years formerly of Spring Lodge and late Arundel House, Twickenham.
1 Clement David Clarke eldest son born 21.01.1862 at Hermitage, Booterstown. Clement
became a barrister. He died 27.03.1910 at Twickenham.
2 Maud Elizabeth Clarke born 24.04.1863 at Hermitage, Booterstown was educated at
Hillersdon House, Barnes, Richmond upon Thames.
3 Florence Blanche Mary Clarke born 29.10.1864 at Cross Avenue was educated at Hillersdon
House, Barnes, Richmond upon Thames. She married William Stopforth Gilroy on
07.06.1888. She was married from Spring Lodge, Twickenham. William was the eldest son
of George Gilroy of Parbold in Lancs.
4 James Redfern Clarke younger son born 06.05.1866 at Hermitage, Cross Avenue,
Booterstown. James a solicitor died at Richmond, Surrey on 19.02.1924.
9 Rebecca Clarke born circa 1820 married Dr Francis Clarke of Blackwaterstown, Clonfeacle, Armagh
son of late Rev Richard Clarke of Portarlington on 15.05.1839 at St Peter’s Church.
1 Francis Edward Clarke eldest and only surviving son married Lucy Elizabeth Flexham
eldest daughter of James Flexham of Deconshire on 28.10.1869 at South Molton Church. The
Venerable Francis Edward Clarke died on 09.03.1910 late of the Rectory in Boyle, Roscommon.
Rebecca died on 16.11.1858 at Leinster Square, Rathmines.
Francis married secondly Jane Crozier Magee of Bellevue, Dundrum daughter of Charles
Magee JP of Parson's Green on 11.04.1860 at Taney Parish Church. Witnesses: George
Crozier and Jonathan Clarke. Francis died on 04.10.1877 late of 3 Ormond Road, Rathmines
and formerly of Avon Cottage, Armagh.
10 Mary Anne Clarke youngest surviving daughter died at Le Bergerie, Portarlington on 08.08.1848.
