Chritchley family
John Chritchley was a stableboy/groom and then chauffeur to Alfred Darley of Carysfort
Lodge Stillorgan. John's brother Mathew was land steward for the Darley family at Hutton
Read in Kildare as had his father and grandfather. The name is spelled variously as
Christley/Christly/Critchley.

Patrick Chritchley, son of John Chritchley, game keeper and steward, married Ann Dunne,
daughter of Matthew Dunne, blacksmith at Maynooth Roman Catholic parish church on
30 Nov 1876. Patrick died at the Blackchurch Hotel on 1 May 1895 aged 51 and an inquest
was held into his death. Annie died 15 Feb 1920 at Blackchurch, both are buried at
Bodenstown cemetery.

2 John Chritchley born 8 Dec 1880 at Blackchurch, worked as a stableboy/groom at
Carysfort Lodge, Stillorgan for Alfred Darley. He still working for Alfred Darley
in 194 as his chauffeur and when Afred died at Grafton Street, John was listed as the
informant on the death certificate. John married Margaret O'Shea 22 Aug 1923, she
was living at Lisadell in Stillorgan Park. John and Margaret were both left 100 pounds
in the Will of Alfred Darley. John died at St Kevin's Hospital on 9 Jun 1956, late of 63
Clarence Mangan Road.

4 Mary Chritchley born 10 Sep 1883 at Blackchurch was working as a drapers assistant
in Rathmines in 1901.
5 Matthew born c1882 in County Kildare, was land steward for the Darley family at
Hutton Read. He married Ellen Egan, the daughter of Patrick Egan, grocer at St Paul's
Church Arran Quay on 21 Oct 1924. Matthew and his wife are buried at Bodenstown
with his parents.
6 Denis Chritchley born 27 Apr 1885 at Black Church was working as a groom in the house
of Lady Olivia Higginson at Great Connell in 1901. He married Catherine Davis
1 Nov 1913 at Bray and died 4 Nov 1918.
7 William Chritchley born 25 Jun 1886 at Queen Bourough, Rathmore, Naas and died
9 Nov 1886 at Queensborough.
