Joshua Mason Chaytor born on 22 May 1790 in Clonmel, son of Thomas Chaytor and
Elizabeth Grub. He married Mary Alexander, daughter of William Alexander and
Elizabeth Gough on 15 Nov 1816. He was a merchant dealing in flour, Indian corn and
meal. He became insolvent but when he prospered again, he paid off all the creditors
although he had no legal obligation to do so. He was a director of the National Glass
Company of Ireland and later a director of the Patriotic Assurance company of Ireland. He
died on 20 April 1857 at age 66 at Heathville, Monkstown, Co Dublin and was buried at
Mount Jerome. Mary died 24 Dec 1872 aged 86 at Heathville, Monkstown and was buried
with her husband.
1 William Alexander Chaytor born 19 Aug 1817 was a barrister and died a bachelor
on 2 Mar 1881 at Bloomfield Retreat, Donnybrook.
2 Thomas Chaytor born 10 May 1820 emigrated to America and died in 1889.
3 Jane Chaytor eldest daughter born 5 Aug 1821 married Albert white on 24 May 1843
at the Friends Meeting House, Monkstown.
4 Eliza Chaytor born 13 Feb 1823 died 13 Jan 1832.
5 Joshua Chaytor born 17 Feb 1823 died 13 Jan 1824.
6 Maria Chaytor born 18 May 1827 married Samuel Strangman on 23 June 1848 at
Monkstown and died 30 Mar 1857 at Waterford.
7 Harriette Chaytor born 25 Mar 1829 married widower Joseph Garratt and they
lived at Glenvar. They had six children. Harriette died 29 Dec 1900 and was buried
at Temple Hill.
8 Charles Henry Chaytor born 13 Mar 1832 in Dublin married Mary Anne Boyle Grainger
on 6 Jun 1861 at St John’s Church, Whitehouse, Belfast. Mary was the daughter of
David Grainger, a merchant of Dante Hall, Belfast. Charles was a stockbroker and they
lived at Marino and Campanella, Killiney. Charles died 7 Oct 1874 at Campanella,
Killiney and was buried at Mount Jerome. After his death Mary moved to Dalriada on
Avoca Avenue. Mary died 31 Aug 1892 at Marino, Killiney aged 57 and was buried at
Mount Jerome. There are memorials to the family in Monkstown Church.

2 Joshua David Chaytor eldest son born circa 1863 in Antrim was a stockbroker.
He was a member of the Ward Union Hunt and the Meath Hounds. He
married Lucy Sophia Norris on 11 Aug 1897 at Chipstead,Surrey. Lucy was the
daughter of James Norris. They lived at Purbeck Lodge in Monkstown where
he constructed four houses. They moved to Marino House, Killiney in 1889
and owned a substantial amount of land in Killiney and built a number of
houses including St Anne’s, Abbeylands, Buenavista, and Villa France. They
were in Knockmaroon, Castleknock by 1901 and sold it to Lord Iveagh in 1903.
They moved to Smithtown House and Joshua was a parishioner of Dunshaughlin
Church of Ireland. He died 4 Jul 1908 at Clonard, Dundrum and left 22K in
personal estate. Lucy died aged 79 at Smithstown House on 12 May 1946.
1 Joshua David Chaytor born 13 May 1903 at Knockmaroon was an
international cricket and polo player. He died in India in 1937 whilst
playing polo.
3 William Alexander Chaytor born 3 Feb 1865 at Marino, Killiney died 11 Jun 1877
at Dalriada.
4 Charles Henry Chaytor born 1 Aug 1866 at Marino Killiney graduated Trinity and
was admitted solicitor in 1888. He was a partner in the firm of Montgomery and
Chaytor of Molesworth Street. He was a member of the Fitzwilliam Tennis Club.
He died unmarried on 16 Jun 1928 and was buried at Mount Jerome.
5 David Grainger Chaytor born circa 1869 was a barrister and married Mary Elizabeth
Gambell. He died 14 Jul 1912 aged 45 of 31 Upper Pembroke Street and was buried
at Mount Jerome.
1 Mary Maud Chaytor born circa 1893 died 29 Mar 1896 and was buried at
Mount Jerome.
2 Charles Grainger Chaytor born 29 Mar 1900 at 31 Upper Pembroke Street moved
to England.
6 Thomas Chaytor born 13 Nov 1870 at Campanella, Killiney died unmarried on
12 Jan 1951 at Dalkey and was buried with his brother Charles at Mount Jerome.
7 Mary Grainger Chaytor youngest daughter born 14 Aug 1873 died
31 May 1888 and was buried at Mount Jerome.
9 Elizabeth Chaytor born circa 1833 married William Crozier Cunningham at Monkstown on
2 Mar 1859.
