Camden Street ordained on 19.12.1841 at Bishopthorpe by the Archbishop of York. Thomas
Carmichael son of Evory of French Street. Evory LRCS to Abigail Susanna Hill eldest daughter
of Rev William Hill of Mohill Glebe, Waterford and grand-daughter of Dr Edward Hill of TCD on
circa 30.10.1830 at St Bridget’s Church, Dublin.
1 Dr Evory Carmichael born 04.01.1832 of 41 Camden Street baptised at St Peter’s
Church married Rebecca Moore Vize daughter of William Vize on 09.08.1853 at
Cloneragh, Queens. The family lived at Mountrath, Sligo and Nottingham. The family
with the exception of son William sailed to Australia bound for Melbourne on 02.03.1878
on board the clipper ship Loch Ard that ran aground on 01.06.1878 near the end of a
three month journey. Both Evory and his wife Rebecca perished as did five of their
children on 01.06.1878. All passengers and crew were lost except Eveline and a
midshipman Thomas Pearce who rescued her from the sea. There is a monument to the
Carmichael family on the cliffs above the Gorge. Only the bodies of Mrs Carmichael, her
daughter Raby and two others were recovered. A memorial plaque commemorates those
who drowned.

3 Eveline Victoria Carmichael 2nd daughter born 15.02.1859 at Mountrath. Eveline
survived the shipwreck and married Thomas Achilles Townshend younger son of the
late Samuel Philip Townshend of Garrycloyne, Cork on 20.11.1884 at the Parish
Church, Cheltenham by the Rev A.H. Herbert Palmer cousin of the bride. Witnesses:

1 Rosalie Amina Carmichael eldest daughter born circa 02.12.1837 at Fitzwilliam Place baptised
at St Peter’s Church. Rosalie married Captain John Dunn RVV a Banker of Geelong, Victoria
son of George Dunn on 09.05.1866 at Monkstown Parish Church. Rosalie died on 27.05.1921
of Kirkstall Road, Streatham, Surrey.

Evory died unmarried on 22.05.1891 aged 52 years at 16 Marino Crescent, Crescent and is
buried at Deansgrange. Probate to Edith Hayes – sister.
3 Margaret Anderson Carmichael born circa 01.09.1840 at 52 Fitzwilliam Place. Margaret was
living at Hamstead in 1911 and died on 29.11.1911 late of Hamstead. Probate to sister
Rosalie A Dunn.
4 Eveline Cecilia Carmichael 3rd daughter born 07.08.1842 of 52 Fitzwilliam baptised at St
Peter’s Church. Eveline married Rev Abraham Henry Herbert Palmer son of Edward Draper
Palmer on 28.10.1872 at Monkstown Parish Church. Witnesses: Evory Carmichael and A.L.
Palmer. Rev Abraham assumed the name Orpen in 1892. The family lived at St Peter’s
Vicarage, Cheltenham. Rev Abraham the Vicar of St Peter’s died on 07.06.1909 at Newdigate
House, Kimberley, Nottinghamshire. Probate to Captain Harold Bland Herbert Orpen-Palmer.
Eveline died on 05.09.1923 at High Park, Kiltegan, Wicklow. Informant: G Orpen Palmer - son.

and baptised at Harolds Cross. Edith died of Scarlet Fever on 08.05.1888 aged 2 years
at Malahide.

died on 05.09.1850 aged 3 years and 8 months at Kingstown.
Eliza died on 03.07.1856 at 2 Mosaphir Terrace, Kingstown. Evory of 3 Eaton Square married
secondly Victoria De Montmorency of 16 Belgrave Square daughter of Henry Montmorency
4th Viscount Mountmorres, late Dean of Achonry on 16.07.1878 at the Mariners Church,
Kingstown by the Rev W Burrowes assisted by Rev A.H. Herbert Palmer. Witnesses: A.H.H.
Palmer and M de Montmerency. Evory died 16.05.1890 aged 79 years at 3 Eaton Square.
Probate to daughter Eliza Edith Hayes of Malahide. The Hon Victoria died on 25.05.1893 at
Great Malvern.

Margaret a Widow died on 14.11.1890 at 5 Longford Terrace, Monkstown. M A Magee present at
death. Probate to James Hubert L Hayes of 6 Saint James Terrace, Malahide.
4 Julia Carmichael born circa December 1817 and baptised 01.10.1819 at St Peter’s Church Julia
married Richard George Herbert Butcher MD son of Admiral Butcher of Cork circa 11.07.1840 or
07.04.1840 in St Peter’s Church, Dublin. Julia a Widow and Aunt of Edith Eliza Hayes was living with
them in 1901 at Drummartin. Richard late of Lower Fitzwilliam Street died on 21.03.1891 at
Towerville, Sandymount and is buried at Mount Jerome. Julia died on 02.01.1905 aged 87 years at
Drommartin House. Eveline C Orpen Palmer present at death.
