Robert William Whelan born circa 1821 in Dublin son of John Whelan. He graduated Trinity
College and took Holy orders. He married Eliza Pratt on 20.05.1852 at Rincurran, Church
Kinsale on 26.05.1852. Eliza was the daughter of late James Pratt of Long Quay, Kinsale.
Robert was curate of Malahide in 1863 and appointed rector of Maynooth by 1868 and
Canon in 1878. He retired in 1889 and they moved to Talbot House in 1896. Eliza died
17.01.1895 aged 68 at 3 Henrietta Place, Bulloch, Kingstown. Rev Canon Robert William
Whelan died at Talbot House, Blackrock on 21.10.1899.
1 Rev Ernest Hamilton Whelan born 25.03.1853 at 8 Blackhall Street baptised at St
Paul’s Church. Ernest was Curate at Powerscourt Church from 1876-1883 and
Rector of Kilbride until his death. Ernest married Deborah Elizabeth Carnegie
daughter of John Dalrymple Carnegie of Prince of Wales Terrace, Bray on
12.10.1881 at Bray Parish Church. During his time at Powerscourt, Ernest kept a
diary describing his daily life. Ernest died on 21.10.1910 aged 58 years at Kilbride
Rectory and Deborah died on 27.11.1923 aged 70 years at 11 Prince of Wales
Terrace, Bray,
1 John Carnegie Whelan born 01.09.1882 at Weston, Enniskerry and died on
22.03.1883 aged 6½ months at same place.
2 Elizabeth Dora Whelan born 01.10.1883 at Weston, Enniskerry. Elizabeth
married William Charles Fleming Robertson of West Park, Glasnevin son of
Rev Charles Robertson on 20.07.1909 at Kilbride Parish Church.
3 Rev Robert Hamilton Whelan born 04.03.1885 at Kilbride Rectory. Robert
was a Missionary Minister in India and married Edith Frances Crosthwait
daughter of John Thomas Crosthwait on 10.10.1918 in Emmanuel Church,
Bombay Presidency, India. After spending time working in Ceylon he
returned home becoming Curate assistant in Bray. Edith died on 01.04.1921
aged 39 years at Clonskeagh Hospital.
1 Hilda Deborah Whelan born 13.02.1921 at 37 Lower Leeson Street
of 7 Wedgewood, Clonskeagh.
Robert a Widower married secondly Ethel Georgina Drought of Belgrave
Road, Monkstown daughter of Rev Anthony Drought on 07.11.1923 in
Monkstown Parish Church. Robert being the 3rd generation in his family
in the service of the Church was appointed Rector of Lislimnaghan, Derry in
April 1931. Robert was created a canon in 1959 and died shortly afterwards
in Omagh.

Archdale son of W P Archdale on 19.04.1951 at the Parish Church,
Waddesdon, Bucks.
3 Anthony Robert Whelan eldest son married Kathleen Archdale 2nd
daughter of W P Archdale Ventnor, Isle of Wight on 15.11.1958 at
Lislimnaghan Parish Church.
4 Beatrice Eleanor Whelan born 06.03.1887 at Kilbride Rectory living at 1
Sydenham Villas, Bray in 1911.
5 Ernest Carnegie Whelan born 02.11.1889 at Kilbride Rectory. Ernest married
Winifred Helen Campbell daughter of John Robert Campbell on 29.03.1917 at
Saidpur, India. Ernest married secondly Esther Elizabeth Drury-Lowe 1956.
Ernest died on 02.08.1957 of Nyeri, Station Road, Rustington, Sussex.

10.07.1873 at Maynooth Parish Church. Her father Robert was Rector of Maynooth
at this time.

4 William Brownrigg Whelan born 17.01.1857 at 8 Blackhall Street baptised at St
Paul’s Church and died 19.12.1914 at 11 Prince of Wales Terrace, Bray. In 1911
William was living with his sister-in-law Deborah a Widow at 1 Sydenham Villas, Bray.
William died unmarried on 19.12.1914 aged 56 years at 11 Prince of Wales Terrace,
Bray and is buried with his father at Deansgrange. Informant Kathleen P Whelan.

7 Rev Percy Scott Whelan born 30.12.1860 at Blessington. Percy of St Columba’s
College married Edythe Laura Darley daughter of George Johnstone Darley and
Caroline Kenny of the Grange, Stillorgan on 17.12.1898 at Stillorgan Parish Church.
Percy was the warden of St Columba's died on 19.09.1941 aged 81 years and
Edythe died on 05.09.1948 both at Mockbridge House, Henfield, Sussex.
