Thomas Babington of Stephen’s Green married Maria Josephina Dillon Begg of Molesworth Street,
daughter of Ignatius Dillon Begg and Countess Elizabeth D'Alton and granddaughter of Count
Christopher D'Alton of Mount D'Alton at St Peters Church 2 Jun 1829. Thomas was the son of
Thomas Babington (1740 -1808) of Roebuck and Hannah Fox and was a solicitor with offices at 134
Leeson Street and later at 73 Lower Baggot Street. The family lived at Hollywood in Roebuck from
1848 to 1858. Thomas died 26 Jan 1858 and Maria died 11 May 1863 aged 57.
1 Thomas D’Alton Babington baptised at Westland Row in 1831 entered King's Inns as a student
in 1857.
2 Mary Elizabeth Babington born 16 Aug 1832 at Leeson Street, baptised at Westland Row on
20 Aug 1832. Mary only daughter died at Baggot Street 25 Apr 1840.
3 Ignatius Thomas D’Alton Babington baptised at Westland Row on 17 Jun 1834.
4 William D’Alton Babington born 12 Dec 1835 at Baggot Street, baptised at Westland Row on
17 Dec 1835. He graduated Trinity MA in 1861 and as second and only son was called to the
Irish Bar in 1862. He was a prizewinning yachtsman and author of Fallacies of Race Theories as
Applied to National Characteristics. He died a bachelor at 4 Roby Place, Kingstown on
19 Nov 1893. He was buried at Deansgrange.
