Edward Bennett born 6 Dec 1877 at The Square, Clonakilty, Cork son of William Bennett, MD and Ellen
Hadden. He attended Edinburgh University and trained at the Methodist training College in Belfast
and was appointed to various locations during his life which included Belfast, Tinahely, Athlone and
Clonakilty. He married Kathleen Duff Robertson from Kerry on 2 July 1908 at the Methodist Church in
Rathfarnham. Kathleen was the daughter of Samuel A Robertson, Methodist minister. Edward retired
in 1945 and took a pastoral appointment at Lucan. Edward died at Epworth, Lucan on 11 Jan 1951.
Kathleen died 25 Mar 1952 aged 66 at Mentone, Longford, the residence of her son in law. Both were
buried at Mount Jerome.
1 Annie Sheila (Sheila) Bennett born 27 May 1909 at Ivydene, White Rock Road. Belfast married
Arthur Perrin Pearse on 2 Jul 1936 at Brighton Road Methodist Church. Arthur was a motor
engineer and the son of William Pearse, a cycle agent. Sheila died 1 Dec 1959 at Mentone,
Longford and was buried at St John’s graveyard, Longford.
2 William Noel Bennett born Christmas Day 1914 at Newtownbarry (Bunclody). William attended
Wesley College and played Rugby for Old Wesley. He held a commission in the Defence Forces
during the Emergency. William qualified from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1950
and practiced at Bray, Dalkey 1953, Stillorgan 1956 and Dun Laoghaire in 1861. He was a
committee memory of the RSPCA and showed bull terriers, gave lectures on the feeding and
care of Boxers and acted as a judge for the Irish Kennel Club. He lived at Mentone Longford in
1953. He married Phoebe Florence Elizabeth Holmes of Lamb’s Cross Sandyford and they had
one daughter. Phoebe showed Welsh Corgi’s and border terriers. William died at Primrose Hill,
Tivoli Road on 12 Nov 1965. His funeral service was held at St John’s Mountown, Dun Laoghaire
and he was buried at Enniskerry.
3 Edward R Bennett joined the Colonial Engineering service in Sierra Leone and married
Geraldine E L McLoughry and William his brother acted as best man.
4 Kathleen May Bennett married Robert Charles Syme on 3 Dec 1946 at Lucan Methodist
Church. They lived at Clonrath, Chapelizod.
