John Wingfield-Stratford only son born 10 Dec 1810 son of Lt Col Hon John Wingfield-
Stratford of Addington Place and Frances Bartholomew. He married Jane Elizabeth Guise
on 10 Dec 1844 at Rendcombe. Jane was the daughter of General Sir John Wright Guise, 3rd
Baronet and Charlotte Diana Vernon of Rendcombe Park, Gloucester. They lived at Addington
Place (later Addington Park) and John was a major in the local militia. it was here that the local
cricket club and archery club held their events. He was also the owner of St Vincent’s estate in
Kent. He was a JP and DL and created High Sheriff of Kent in 1870. John died at Malling, Kent in
8 May 1881 and was buried in the family vault at Addington church. He left 73K in personal
estate, most of which was left to his eldest son Edward. Jane installed a reredos in Addington
Church in his memory. Jane died on 20 Feb 1897 at Cheltenham and was buried with her
husband.
1 Isabella Margaret Wingfield-Stratford eldest daughter born 22 Dec 1845 at Strafford
Place, London baptised 5 Feb 1846 at Addington. She married James Newton Heale
on 14 Jan 1868 at Addington James was the rector of Addington and the lived at the
Rectory and had at least six children. Isabella died a widow on 23 Dec 1933 at
Devonshire.
2 Frances Charlotte Wingfield-Stratford second daughter born 3 Nov 1847 at Addington
married Henry Michael Hawley on 24 Nov 1875 at Addington Church. Henry was the
son of the Rev Henry C Hawley. Sir Henry died in 1909 survived by his widow and six
children. His son Henry Cusack Wingfield Hawley became the 6th Baronet. Frances
died a widow on 10 Sep 1926 at Hove, Sussex.
3 Edward John Wingfield-Stratford eldest son born 26 Feb 1849. He served for a time
on the Scot’s Guards and afterwards in the 3rd (Militia) Battalion of the Royal West Kent
Regiment. He was a magistrate for Kent and died 21 Apr 1903 at Clifton Beds.
4 Henry Verner Wingfield-Stratford born 9 Sep 1851, a captain with the rifle brigade. He
married Grace Atkinson in 1893 at Tonbridge. He died 21 Nov 1923.
5 Cecil Vernon Wingfield Stratford third son born 7 Oct 1853 in Addington Place, Addington,
near West Malling. He was educated at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich. He was a
great grandson of the third Lord Powerscourt. He was commissioned the Royal Engineers
as a lieutenant in 1873. He played football for the Woolwich Academy and for the Royal
Engineers, and earned a cap for England versus Scotland in 1877. He married Rosalind
Isabel Bligh on 12 Oct 1881 at All Saints Church, Birling, West Malling. Rosalind was the
only daughter of Hon Rev Edward Vesey Bligh and Lady Isabel Mary Frances Nevill of
Fatherwell Estate. He was appointed Chief Engineer in Ireland in 1905. He lived at
Roebuck House from 1909 to 1910. He retired a brigadier general in 1910 having not seen
service. He was recalled from retirement to serve in WW1 in 1914 and held command on
the Western Front, taking part in the Battle of Loos in 1915. When Rosalind’s mother died
in 1916, she left unsettled estate of the value of £141,253. She bequeathed Fatherwell
Estate to Rosalind with remainder to Cecil and their children. He was awarded the CMG in
1916 and CB in 1918. He died in retirement at Fatherwell Hall, West Malling on
5 Feb 1939. He was buried at St Martin’s, Ryarsh. Rosalind died on 13 March 1953 at
Fatherwell and was buried with her husband.
1 Esmé Cecil Wingfield-Stratford elder son born 20 Sep 1882 in London. He was
educated at Eton College and King's College, Cambridge. He married Barbara
Elizabeth Errington on 30 Dec 1915. Barbara was the daughter of Lieutenant
Colonel H L Errington and was an author. Esmé was an author and reviewer for
the Times Newspaper and they lived at Cross Oaks, Berkhamsted. Esmé died
20 Feb 1971 survived by his wife and daughter.

3 Rosalind Frances Cecily (Linda) Wingfield-Stratford only daughter born
28 Aug 1893 Rosalind married Cecil Ireland Blackburne-Maze on 25 Feb 1915
at Ryarsh. Cecil was with the 8th Service Battalion, the Queen’s Own (Royal
West Kent Regiment). Linda died circa 1975.
6 Emily Rose Wingfield-Stratford third daughter born 8 Mar 1855 at Addington Place,
baptised at St Margaret’s Addington on 6 May 1855. She married Henry Waugh Renny
Tailyour on 9 Sep 1875. He was the eldest son of Col Renny Tailyour of Borrowfield,
Forfarshire. Henry was a Colonel with the Royal Engineers and they lived at Shrewsbury
House, Merrion Road, Donnybrook and they had a least six children. Emily died
22 Jul 1904 and was buried at Rosehill Cemetery, Montrose in Scotland.
7 Leonard Guise Wingfield-Stratford fourth son born 26 Sep 1856 at Ryarsh married
Alethe Sylva Montgomery on 1 Dec 1880. Alethe was the eldest daughter Nixon
Montgomery. Leonard was a farmer and lived at Powerscourt, Natal. They had at least
one daughter. He was widower living with his sister Georgina in 1921. Leonard died
28 Jun 1941.
8 Florence Mary Wingfield-Stratford fourth daughter born 3 Jan 1858 married Henry
Lawrence Daly on 10 Apr 1883 at Christchurch, Lancaster. Henry was with the 15th
Hussars and the second son of Sir Henry Daly. Florence a widow living in Devon with
her son Jocelyn in 1921.
9 Howard Wingfield-Stratford fifth son born 13 Nov 1859 at Malling, Kent. He was a
captain with the 4 West York militia and fought in the Boar War. He married Christina
Margaret Roland on 22 Oct 1901 at Beaford, Devon. Christina was the daughter of
David Scott Duncan and the widow of Walter Miller Roland. They were living at Fernhill
Llechryd, Llangoedmor, Cardiganshire, Wales and had no children in 1911.
10 Richard Nevill Wingfield-Stratford born 8 Jun 1861 at Addington. He married Ellen
Gordon at Pietermaritzburg, Natal, South Africa on 25 Feb 1887 and they divorced in
October that year. He secondly married Grace Dorothea Montgomery on 16 Dec 1891
at St Paul’s Church, Durban. Grace was the fourth and third surviving daughter of
Alexander Dixon Montgomery. They had at least two children. Richard died
18 Oct 1942 in London, probate was to his wife.
11 Georgiana Maud Wingfield-Stratford fifth daughter born 14 Nov 1862 married Captain
Howard Guise on 2 Jun 1891 at St Margaret’s Addington. She had at least one
daughter and was a widow living at Alcester, Shaftesbury, Dorset in 1921. Georgiana
died 14 Nov 1945 at Tintinhull Rectory, Yeovil and left 17K in personal estate.
12 Francis Mervyn Wingfield-Stratford born 27 Aug 1864 baptised 30 Oct 1864 at
Addington. He married Nora Mabel Matthey on 16 Jan 1906 at St Paul’s, Kensington.
Nora was the daughter of George Matthew of Cheyne House, Chelsea. They were living
at Ozleworth, Tetbury, Gloucestershire in 1911 with their two children. Frances died
18 Dec 1932 at Aldershot.
13 Violet Alice Ethel Wingfield-Stratford youngest daughter born 9 Jul 1868 at Addington
Place. She married Lt Bertie Cator, RN in November 1892. The lived at The Orchards,
West Malling. Violet worked as a VAD and died 16 Mar 1916 survived by a son and a
daughter.
