Samuel Wilson born circa 1849 in Dublin was a tailor of Fownes Street and 7 Trinity Street,
Dublin. The family were living at Mount Street in 1901 and identified as Church of Ireland.
By 1908 they firm specialised in motor clothing and were suppliers to the King and Queen
of Spain, the King of England and the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland. They also had a stand at
the Motor Show that year. In 1911 they were living at Clanwilliam Place, identified as
Plymouth Brethren and Samuel had retired. Their home at 1 Clanwilliam Place was
destroyed by fire after being occupied by insurgents in the Battle of Mount Street in 1916.
They moved to Gort Na Mona, Bray and later to Herbert Street. They lived at Beaufield from
1929. Sarah died 08.02.1931 at Beaufield and is buried at Mount Jerome. Samuel died
16.03.1931 and is buried with his wife.
1 Sarah Catherine Wilson born 21.05.1877 at 5 Fownes Street a milliner in 1901. She
married John Askins Champs at the Registrar's Office in Dublin City on 27 Jun 1903.
John was a warehouse man resident at Frankfurt Avenue in Rathgar and the son of
Charles Champs, a farmer of Coolgagan House, Rathangan, Co Kildare.
1 Eileen Norah Champs born 21 May 1904 at Killeen Road. She married Victor
Charles Peare at Rathdown District Registrar's Office on 30 Dec 1930.
2 Charles Robert Wilson born circa 1878 died of typhoid fever on 12.01.1893 at the
Adelaide Hospital late of 7 Trinity Street.
3 Thomas John Wilson born 19.03.1879 at 5 Fownes Street. Thomas was a tailor cutter
working for his father in 1901. He was a motor agent when he married Helen Gardiner
on 11.09.1912 at the Registrar’s Office, Dublin. Helen resident at 18 Hollybrook Road,
Clontarf was the daughter of John Gardiner, a draper. Thomas bought the Mount
Merrion estate for 36K in 1918 with plans to develop the land into a Garden Estate.
The building of the estate was besieged with building and legal problems including
finance, drainage and the felling of trees. The mansion house was demised to his wife
Helen for 99 years in 1925. Thomas was bankrupt with liabilities of 167k and assets of
£136 in 1927. Thomas died 4 Jan 1935 at Beaufield and is buried at Mount Jerome.
Helen died on 23 Jul 1950 at ‘Highthorn‘, Mounttown, Dun Laoghaire aged 60 and is
buried with her husband.
1 Rex Samuel Wilson born 23 Oct 1913 at 158 Merrion Road. He was a motor
salesman and married Margaret Iris Smith at Zion Church on 27 Oct 1937.
Margaret was the daughter of Richard Dixon Smith of Upper Rathmines Road.
Samuel later took Holy orders.
4 Mary Elizabeth Wilson born 23.06.1881 at 5 Fownes Street and died there of bronchitis
on 23.04.1883 aged 1 years and 10 months.
5 Catherine Jane Wilson born 09.03.1885 at 7 Trinity Street. She never married.
6 Samuel Wilson born 30.06.1886 at 7 Trinity Street and died there on 29.11.1887 aged
18 months.
7 Samuel Wilson born 05.02.1890 at 7 Trinity Street was a motor engineer. He died from
TB on 11 Feb 1921 at Merrion Square.
8 William John Wilson born 02.06.1892 at 7 Trinity Street. William a motor engineer of 34
Merrion Square married Mary Kathleen Callow on 7 Nov 1923. May was living at 66 Park
Avenue, Sandymount and was the daughter of William Callow, a motor engineer. William
of 6 Park Crescent, Portland Place, London when his parents died in 1931.
9 Evelyn (Eva) Wilson born 09.06.1895 at 18 Lower Mount Street living at Clanwilliam Place
in 1916 died 19 Dec 1919 at Northumberland Road.
10 Stanley Wilson died aged 3 months at 18 Lower Mount Street on 15 Sep 1897.
