Weldrick Family of Idrone House, Blackrock
John Weldrick a Publisher/Literary Agent son of John Weldrick married Mary Ellen Hart daughter
of late Simon Patrick Hart in 1880. He was on the council of the Society for the preservation of
the Irish Language. John and Mary Ellen were buried at Deansgrange cemetery.

1 John Francis Xavier Weldrick born 7 June 1881 at Idrone House married Dorothy Gilbert
at St George's Church, Hanover Square, London in 1929. The couple had a son Francis,
John worked as a clerk and died at Reading, Berkshire in 1948.
2 George Joseph Weldrick 2nd son born 2 May 1883 at Idrone House, Blackrock. George
was educated at Blackrock college before joining the Royal Navy aged 16. He obtained
his Master’s certificate in 1907 and also obtained a pilot’s certificate for Lagos. He
contracted Malaria and retired in 1908 but took a position with The White star line when
he recovered. He was gazetted to the Royal Navy reserve in 1913. He was onboard the
HMS Clan McNaughton commanded by Robert Jeffreys when it was sunk while on patrol
duty with a loss of 281 lives. The wreck in the North Atlantic has never been located. He
was declared killed in action on 3 Feb 1915. He is commemorated on the Chatham Naval
Memorial.
3 Mary Elizabeth Clare Weldrick born 29 Aug 1885 at Idrone House. She lived with her
parents and never married. She died 5 Sep 1931 and wsd buried with her parents in
Deansgrange cemetery.
4 Brendan Charles Clare Weldrick born 18 Apr 1888 at Idrone House. Brendan left Ireland for
New York in 1907. Mrs Fumer a cousin was to meet him on arrival. He served with the British
Royal Air Force and married Alma Tout on 26.10.1912. He was a garage manager in Fresno,
California. His draft paper signed in 1917 notes that he served three years in the Philippians.
They had two children Jock and Shirley.
