Thomas Ruddell son of George Ruddell, manufacturer married Sarah McKee daughter of Patrick
McKee, manufacturer at St Anne’s Belfast on 27 Feb 1866. Thomas was a publican/grocer/egg
merchant living at Carnalbanagh, Moira. He also ran the Deramore Arms Hotel at Moira, Co Down.

4 Sarah Ruddell, third daughter born 3 Sep 1871 at Moira married Henry Walter Warry at
Moira, Co Down in 15 Sep 1909. Henry was a commercial clerk in the drug trade living at
Phibsboro. He was the son of Walter Warry, a printer and Jemima Priest from Taunton in
Somerset who moved to Dublin in the late 1870's. Together with his brothers Sam and
Charlie he founded the Clonliffe Harriers. Sarah qualified as a teacher from the Church of
Ireland Training College in 1892 and was Principal of Moira Church of Ireland School in
Bottier, Co Down in 1905, a position she had to vacate to live with her husband in Dublin.
Sarah started working in Stillorgan School on 2 Sep 1912 and stayed for 23 Years. They
lived at School Buildings, (the old dispensary). When the school came under the National
School System in 1927, Sarah was earning £56 per annum. Every year she would send
postcards from her holiday in Co Down to each of her pupils. By all accounts Sarah was a
wonderful teacher and one parish document records that, 'she has justified in every respect
the high recommendation with which she came to us.' Henry died at the Adelaide Hospital
on 9 Jan 1930 late of School Buildings, Stillorgan. J C Nichols made the funeral arrangements
and Henry was buried at Old Drumcondra Church Yard. Mr A Hammond of 21 Shandon Rd,
Phibsboro took care of the account. Sarah retired in 1935 and was given a purse with 30
sovereigns and an illuminated address as a retirement gift. Sarah died at School Buildings
on 14 Aug 1936.
1 Gladys Sarah Jemima Warry only child born 21 July 1910 at 97 Connaught Street,
Dublin. Gladys died from Measles 7 Aug 1914 at the Deramore Arms Hotel, Moira, her
maternal aunt Mrs Kate Hammond the informant.
5 Catherine (Kate) Charlotte Ruddell born 13 Dec 1873 at Moira married James Hammond at St
Anne’s Church, Belfast on 4 April 1894.
6 Thomas Ruddell born 13 Jul 1875 at Moira, Co Down.
7 Ralph Ruddell born 24 Dec 1876 at Moira was a butcher and died 21 Jan 1907 at Carnalbanagh
West.
8 Mary Anne Ruddell born 27 Jun 1878 at Moira was a wine and spirit merchant of
Carnalbanagh in 1911 and ran the Deramore Arms after her father died. She married Sgt
Major John McAlister at St John’s Church, Moira on 15 Mar 1915. John was with the 16th Royal
Irish Rifles and was the son of Colour SGT James McAlister of the 5th Royal Irish Rifles.
9 Margaret Ruddell born 3 Oct 1879 at Moira living with her sister Mary in 1911.
10 Joseph Ruddell born 21 May 1882 at Moira was a flesher and married Margaret Kennedy at St
John’s Church Moira on 31 Oct 1906. Margaret was the daughter of Thomas Kennedy, a farmer
and was living at Lurganville, Moira at the time of her marriage.
