Francis William Wailes born 25 Sep 1866 at Rathmore House, Bamford in Co Kilkenny, son of Arthur
George Wailes, a farmer and his wife Mary Alice Johnson. Francis was an accountant and worked
for Bewley & Draper. His father died on the 11 Oct 1870 aged just 29 at Rathmore House, Kilkenny.
Francis, his sister Gertrude and brother Arthur were all minors.
Francis married Beatrice Augusta MacVeigh at Bray on 17 Jun 1895 at Bray RC Chapel. Beatrice was
the daughter of William Austin MacVeigh, a manufacturer of jute and linen and his wife Margaret
Toner. Beatrice was living at 1 Meath Road Bray in 1901 and in 1911 the family were staying with
Beatrice’s sister in Bray. Francis was a nationalist volunteer with the rank of captain in 1915. They
lived at Glenheather from 1931 to 1934. Francis died at Glenheader, Avoca Avenue on
16 Mar 1934 and was buried at Deansgrange. Beatrice died at 8 Sydney Avenue on 4 Oct 1950 and
was buried with her husband.
1 Mary Hilda (Hilda) Wailes born 8 Sep 1886 at 3 Pembroke Terrace attended the Dominican
Convent school in Wicklow and later Bray Technical School. She also attended the Leinster
School of Music and took park in the Feis Ceol. She was living at Sydney Avenue and
married Peter Flood on 6 Oct 1939 at Blackrock Church. Peter was a clerk and the son of
Peter Flood an Inspector of Police and who later worked for the ESB. They lived at
Greenville Road, Stradbrook. Peter died 5 Mar 1973 aged 91 and Hilda died 13 Jul 1982 at
Belle Vista Stradbrook Road. Both are buried at Deansgrange.
2 Francis William Thomas (Bill) Wailes born 3 December 1898 at 3 Pembroke Terrace was
baptised at Booterstown. He was a bank official living at 8 Sydney Avenue and married
Anne Dorothea (Dorothea) Crowley 20 7 Jun 1941 at St Michael’s Dun Laoghaire. Dorothea
was the daughter of Florence J Crowley, a clerk of the union and they had one daughter.
Francis died 7 Oct 1976 and was buried at Deansgrange.
3 Margaret Muriel Gertrude (Muriel) Wailes born 18 Apr 1901 at 3 Pembroke Terrace never
married.
