married Ellen elder surviving daughter of Timothy Devane of Caherbreagh, Tralee, Kerry. They
lived at Farmleigh from 1904 to 1914 and he had offices at Fleet Street.

1 Major General William Ernest Tyndall born 27.05.1891 at 84 Palmerston Road graduated with
a Bachelor of Medicine married Helen Bianconi daughter of John Coppinger O’Connell
Bianconi and Arabella Hayes of Oaklands, Serpentine Avenue on 30.07.1918 at Star of the Sea
Church Sandymount. He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire and
Companion, Order of the Bath and awarded the Military Cross. William died 20.03.1975 aged
83 years.
2 Joseph Charles Tyndall born 18.05.1892 at 84 Palmerston Road of the 4th Dublin Fusiliers
killed in action on 02.03.1915 aged 22 years in Belgium.
3 Lieutenant Eustace John Tyndall born 16.08.1895 at 4 Trafalgar Terrace, Monkstown.
Eustace served in France with the 9th Lancers. Eustace late of Talbot Lodge, Blackrock died
unmarried on 10.09.1948 at aged 53 years at 97 Lower Leeson Street, Dublin.
4 Rev Fr Robert (Bertie) Johnston Tyndall S.J. born 05.09.1897 at 4 Trafalgar Terrace, Monkstown.
He was sent to Australia, as vice principal of Studley Hall, the preparatory school for Xavier
College, Melbourne. He was ordained in 1928 and held many positions including Superior of
Gardiner Street Church, Dublin. He died in 1988.
5 Cecil Francis Tyndall 4th son born 22.08.1899 at 4 Trafalgar Terrace, Monkstown married
Mary Ethna (Betty) Dowley daughter of Joseph Dowley of Castlane, Carrick-on-Suir on
11.10.1939 at Piltown, Kilkenny.
6 Eileen Tyndall born 11.12.1900 at 4 Trafalgar Terrace, Monkstown married William M
McGrath of Cave Hill Hospital, Surrey son of Thomas McGrath on 12.08.1925 at St John the
Baptist Church, Blackrock.
7 Donald Alfred Tyndall born 20.09.1902 became an architect in London in 1926 travelling to
Shanhai in 1932. He served as an officer in the Royal Engineering Corps during the Second
World War. After the war he was involved in Hospital design and Housing Schemes for Local
Authorities around Ireland. Donald died 21.04.1975 aged 72 years.
8 Florence Helen Tyndall born 15.06.1904 at Farmleigh, Stillorgan married Major Richard
Murphy of Cambridge Terrace, Dun Laoghaire son of Richard Paul Murphy on 08.06.1935 at
St Patricks Church, Monkstown. The service was conducted by the bride’s brother Rev. Fr.
Robert Tyndall SJ. A reception was held by the bride’s mother prior to the wedding for 300
guests at the Shelbourne Hotel.
9 Alexander Dominic Tyndall born 20.01.1907 at Farmleigh married Teresa Tiernan daughter of
Thomas Tiernan of Woodhill House, Dromore West, Sligo on 13.10.1954 at the Pro Cathedral.
The ceremony was conducted by the Rev Fr R Tyndall brother of the Groom.
