Tombe family of Ardmeen, Blackrock
Gordon Evelyn Tombe son of Henry Joy and Thomasina Tombe of Bromley, Delgany, Co Wicklow
married Grace Harriet Joy daughter of George Joy of Woodtown House on 02.08.1854 at
Whitechurch, Dublin. Gordon and Grace took an interest in the Kilpeddar Sabbath School. In 1865
they arranged for both teachers and pupils to attend the Dublin Exhibition of Arts and
Manufactures held at the Dublin Exhibition Palace and Winter Garden. They laid on transport and
a meal for everyone. Gordon was appointed JP in 1866 and was on the committee of the SPCA in
1877. He presented Delgany Church with a brass lectern in the form of an eagle in memory of his
uncle George Tombe, QC of Delgany. Grace, of Bromley, Greystones and Ardmeen, Blackrock died
at Cherville, Deganwy, North Wales on 13.09.1900 and Gordon died 30.06.1909 at Buxton,
Derbyshire, late of Ardmeen, Blackrock.

1 Rev George Gordon Tombe eldest son born 12.03.1855 at Brussels, Belgium. He attained
a BA from Oxford University and was called to the bar in in 1883. He married on
25.03.1890 at East Malvern, Delgany to Agatha daughter of the late Rev William de Burgh.
George died 27.04.1941.
2 Isabella Luisa Tombe born 13.06.1856 Wicklow.
3 Henry Evelyn Tombe born 26.04.1860 at Bromley Newtown Mount Kennedy married
Agnes Nelson Hennessy daughter of Peter Taylor Rogers on 29.07.1891 in Bombay, India.
In 1878 he won the singles of the 1878 Men's Tennis tour, his father was a semi-finalist.
In 1911 Henry was living with his sister Ellen in Lancashire. Henry died 1940 at
Denbighshire aged 79 years.
4 Grace Edith Joy Ivy Tombe born 21.12.1866 bpt 17.02.1867 2nd daughter married Rev
Ronald MacDonnell eldest son of Rev Ronald McDonnell on 23.05.1888 at Christ Church
Delgany.
5 Ellen Mary Evelyn Tombe born 25.04.1868 bpt 12.06.1868 married Harold Thorp born
26.06.1869 the son of James Thorp on 03.01.1903 at All Saints Church, Blackrock. In
1911 Ellen and Harold were living in Lancashire with her brother Henry and in 1939
they were living in Buxton, Derbyshire. Harold died on 10.02.1941 and Ellen died on
03.09.1948 at Torquay, England.
