Tinkler Family of Janeville
George Tinkler married Jane Franklin, daughter of Jane Franklin of Mary's Lane. George was
a paper stainer with premises at 42 South Great Georges Street and a freeman of the city from
1778. He was a member of the Guild of St Luke the Evangelist for Cutlers and Stationers and a
member of The Corporation of Stationery and Company being a warden from 1787 to 1789.
He was present at a guild meeting at The Grove Rooms, part of the Music Hall in Fishamble
Street in February 1782 when the floor collapsed but luckily was just bruised.
George and his family lived at Janeville (Glenalbyn) and George was Church warden of Stillorgan
in 1793. George died in 1799 and his widow proposed to keep on the business but in 1806 the
premises at South Great Georges Street are for sale along with Tinklers Court to the rear of the
premises. Jane died from Cholera in 1834 at Charlemont Street. Both are buried at Chapelizod.

1 George Tinkler born circa 1780 married Ann Yeates, of Bolton Street in 1799.
1 Caroline Matilda Tinkler married Thomas Cooke, the grandson of Thomas McCasky
of Hermitage, Roebuck and the son of David Cooke at St Peters Church on 19 Dec 1857.
Caroline died the following month from bronchitis on 11 Jan 1858. Thomas secondly
married Jane Frances Hill in August 1858.
2 Luke Tinkler born before 1786 became an attorney with offices at 51 South Great Georges Street
before moving to Baggot Street. He lived at Kingstown, Charlemont street and Roscrea
and became insolvent in 1833. He married Deborah Bradshaw, daughter of Samuel
Bradshaw of Golden Garden, Roscrea at St Peter's Church on 6 Nov 1811. Deborah died at
Cobh on 13 Apr 1837. Luke's house was destroyed in the 'the night of the 'Big Wind' in 1839.
Luke died at Roscrea on 8 Nov 1840.
1 Jane Frances Tinkler, only daughter married John Barrington, eldest son of Nicholas
Barrington of Ballycogley Castle, Co Wexford at Taney Church on 10 Sep 1836.
A wit penned this for the wedding nuptials.
'May Barrington no jarring tone E'er find in his Tinkler belle
And Harmony's chime, through each life -time, all discord quick expel.'
2 Francis Greene Tinkler, only son, of Valley House, Roscrea admitted to Kings Inns in
1838 married Anna Sarah Blennerhassett, daughter of John Blennerhassett of Victoria
Place, Tralee on 30 Oct 1843 at St Peter's Church, Dublin. Partner in Tinkler Cummins of
11 D'Olier Street he was Irish law agent to the West of England Insurance Company.
He represented the widow Gamble of Air Hill, Monkstown in a much publicized case in
1864.
1 Daughter born 7 Aug 1844 at 9 Upper Gloucester Street.
2 Son born at Salthill, Monkstown 16 Aug 1846.
3 Louise Blennerhasset Tinkler born circa 1850 published Eight Tales of Fairyland and
mentions the hill at the top of Mountown as being known as Window Gamble's Hill.
Louise married Mons. Poirex and died in 1907.
3 Jane Tinkler, eldest daughter born circa 1783 married Samuel Boxwell, silk mercer of Nicholas
Street on 12 May 1802 and they moved to Campfield in Drummartin. Samuel died at Campfield
House on 10 May 1852 aged 75 and Jane died at Riversfield, Wexford on 8 April 1870. After her
death the leases on the lands of Drummartin were sold, these included Campfield House,
Campfield Terrace and the public house now known as The Goat. Samuel and Jane are both
buried in Mount Jerome. They had no issue and Jane left 17K in personal estate.
4 Amelia Anne Tinkler born circa 1788 married Samuel Page of 45 Dame Street at St Peters in
July 1821. Samuel was a notary public and stock broker. Amelia died at 18 Avoca Avenue
Blackrock on 18 May 1856 and Samuel died in 24 Mar 1871 age 88 at Hampton House,
Leinster Road and was buried at Mount Jerome.
1 Eleanor Page, eldest daughter married James Barton of Vergemont on 9 Jan 1844
at St Andrew's Church.
2 William Page buried at Chapelizod.
3 Isabella Page born circa 1817 died 6 Mar 1895 and is buried at Mount Jerome.
5 Louisa Agnes Tinkler born circa 1789 married William McCasky of Hermitage, Roebuck at St Peters in
January 1832. William died 9 Jun 1834 and Louise died in 1880 aged 91.
6 Eliza Tinkler died June 1854 and was buried at Chapelizod.
