Glascott was resident at Dominick Street when he married Barbara McNally of Jervis
Street at St Mary’s Church, Dublin on 27 Dec 1834. Barbara was the daughter of Captain
Richard McNally and Susan Warren. He was a medical doctor and a fellow of the RCSI
and appointed to the dispensary of Kingstown in 1837. Barbara died at 2 Gresham
Terrace on 18 Jul 1882 and is buried at Mount Jerome. Glascott died a widower on
17 Feb 1895 late of 2 Gresham Terrace, Kingstown, his grandson; Joseph the informant.
He left 22k in personal estate and is buried at Mount Jerome.
1 Glascott Richard Symes eldest son born circa 1837. He studied in Glasgow and
was a surgeon and medical doctor of Steeven’s Hospital when he married
Elizabeth (Bessie) Symes at Shillelagh Church on 19 Sep 1860. Bessie was the
only daughter of the late Joseph Symes of Hillbrook, Shillelagh, Co Wicklow.
Glascott died at Hume Street on 10 Oct 1866. See Obit. He is buried at Mount
Jerome.
1 Joseph Mitchelburne Symes born 3 Jan 1864 at Hume Street, Dublin. He
was a stockbroker when he married Adelaide Anna Gibton at the Mariners
Church on 9 Jun 1897. Adelaide was living at Gresham Terrace, Kingstown
and was the daughter of Major William Gibton. Adelaide died 16 Feb 1954
at Glen-na-Carraig, Killiney. Joseph died 25 Sep 1956 at Sydney House,
Blackrock, late of Glen-na-Carraig. Both are buried at Deansgrange.

Church, Paddington. They were living at Florence Terrace, Bray in 1901. She died

4 Margaret Katherine Symes third daughter born circa 1843 died unmarried on
19 Apr 1937 and is buried at Mount Jerome.
5 Richard Glascott Symes born circa 1840 was an engineer and a geologist with the
Geological Survey of Ireland. He married Annie Hone Dyas on 26 Sep 1867 at
Athboy Church. Annie was the youngest daughter of the late Richard Dyas of
Heathstown House. He died a widower on 27 Jul 1906 at Belgrave Square,
Monkstown.

8 William John Symes born 8 Jan 1846. He trained as an architect and set up in
practice at Westland Row in 1872 and was appointed architect to the Royal College
of Surgeons that year. He was living at 2 Gresham Terrace and married Emma
Helena Geoghegan on 2 Jul 1874 at St Peter’s Church, Dublin. Emma was resident
at 55 Stephen’s Green and was the daughter of Thomas Geoghegan, solicitor.
William went into partnership with Richard Chayter Millar with a practice at 197
Great Brunswick Street. He won the design competition for alterations and
additions to the Royal College of Surgeons in 1875. Together they designed many
iconic and innovative buildings including the Irish Stock Exchange at Anglesea Street
and the Central Hotel. They were elected architects to the Bank of Ireland in 1879.
William died 16 Apr 1892 and is buried at Deansgrange. Emma died from
melancholia on 16 May 1922 at Stewart’s Institution in Palmerstown late of Killiney
and is buried with her husband.

Pembroke. He was the only surviving son of Ninian C Niven of Craignure,
Cowper Road.
6 William Kingham Thomas Symes born 28 Feb 1882 at Aylesbury Villa, Adelaide
Road. He was a brewers banker's clerk living with his mother at Adelaide Road in
1901. He died on 28 Aug 1910 at Colorado, USA.
7 Arthur Richard Symes born 9 Mar 1885 at Adelaide Road. He was an electrical
engineer living with his mother at Adelaide Road in 1911.
