Michael James Sweetman born circa 20.07.1829 of Lamberton Park, Queen’s County married Mary
Margaret Powell only child and heiress of Michael Powell of Fitzwilliam Square, and Richview,
Dublin on 19.02.1849 at St Andrew’s Church, Westland Row, Dublin. Michael died 03.08.1864 aged
45 years at Windsor Terrace, Kingstown. Mary Margaret died 01.10.1912 late of 1 Manson Place,
Queens Gate, Middlesex.
1 John Michael Sweetman-Powell of Lamberton Park eldest son baptised on 02.06.1852 at
Westland Row, Dublin assumed by Royal Licence 1874 the additional surname and arms of
Powell in line with his grandfathers’s will. John married Adela Jane Petre 2nd daughter of Hon
Arthur and Lady Catherine Petre of Coptfold Hall on 28.10.1879 at the Chapel of SS
Erconwald and AEdelberga at Instonegate Hall. John died on 07.03.1907 aged 54 years at 16
Pitt Street, Kensington.
2 Gertrude Mary Sweetman baptised on 31.12.1856 at St Andrew’s, Westland Row, Dublin died
a spinster at Lamberton on 21.09.1941.
3 Mary Elizabeth Sweetman second daughter born circa 1859 at Kiliney Park was brought up
at Lamberton, Queens County. She married Frances Nicholas Blundell on 18 Nov 1879 at
SS Peter & Paul Maryborough, Mountmellick. Nicholas was the second son of Colonel
Nicholas Brundell of Crosby Hall, England. They had met in Brussels where both families
were living. The dejeuner was held at Lamberton park and the couple honeymooned in Paris.
She was an prolific author and used the pen name M E Francis. Francis died in 1884. She
was a prolific Irish novelist. She wrote Dark Rosaleen and was described as the best known
woman novelist of the day. Mary died 9 Mar 1930 at her home there, Maes Alyn, and was
buried in St Mary's churchyard, Little Crosby, Lancashire.
1 Francis Blundell only son born 16 Oct 1880 at Little Crosby, Lancashire was educated at
Stonyhurst College, The Oratory School, Birmingham and Merton College, Oxford. He
graduated from Oxford with a BA in 1904. He enlisted and served as ADC to General
Hunter Weston. He married Theresa Victoria Ward at the Oratory Brompton in August
1918. Teresa was the daughter of Wilfrid Ward, editor of the Dublin Review. The couple
had two children and Francis was later MP for Ormskirk. He served as chairman of the
Catholic Education Council of England and Wales from 1927 until his death. He was
appointed a Papal Chamberlain of the Sword and Cape to three popes. He died on
28 Oct 1936 in London.
2 Elizabeth Clementina Mary (Margaret) Blundell born 9 Nov 1881. She collaborated with
her mother on a number of books and was an author in her own right. She died in 1964.
3 Mary Frances (Agnes) Blundell born 9 Jun 1885 Windsor collaborated with her mother
on a number of books and was an author in her own right. She died in 1966.
4 Eleanor Mary Sweetman of 13 Fitzwilliam Square East baptised 1861 at St Andrew’s Church,
Westland Row, Dublin. Elinor was staying with the Castle family in Surrey in 1911. She was a
poet and writer and published 'Footsteps of the Gods and other poems' in 1893 . She died a
spinster at Clontarf on 03.10.1922.
5 Agnes Mary Sweetman youngest daughter baptised 21.04.1862 at Maryborough married
Egerton Smith Castle only son of Arthur Castle of 2 Chapel Street, Park Lane on 18.06.1883
at the Brompton Oratory and co-authored many novels with her husband including 'The Bath
Comedy'.
1 Marie Louise Castle born circa 1885 became Countess de Meeûs, of Brussels when she
married in 1922 and was a writer.
