Thunder. Will of Patrick dated 22.12.1770 and proved 15.01.1771.
1 Catherine Sweetman married Valentine Browne of Mount Brown in Kilmainham, brewer in
New Row on the Poddle.
1 Margaret Browne born circa 1748 only daughter married Nicholas Lawless born circa
1733 of High Street son of Robert Lawless created 1st Lord Cloncurry son of Robert
Lawless and Mary Hadsor on 13.10.1761 at St Peter’s Church, Dublin. Residence at
Maretimo House, Blackrock. Margaret Lady Cloncurry died 10.02.1795 aged 46
years and Lord Cloncurry died 29.08.1799 aged 63 years at Maretimo. He was buried
at Crumlin.
1 Mary Catherine Lawless born circa Aug 1766 in France. Mary married (Buck) Thomas
'Jerusalum' Whaley on 11.01.1800 at St Peter’s Church, Dublin. Thomas died on
02.11.1800 aged 34 years at Knutsford and is buried at Knutsford Churchyard. Mary
died on 18.10.1830 at Conyngham Hall.
2 Hon Valentina Letitia Alicia Lawless 2nd daughter born circa 12.09.1767 at Castle
Galleville, France married Sir Francis Nathaniel Pierpoint Burton born circa 1766 son
of Francis Conyngham and Elizabeth Clements on 10.06.1801 at St Peter’s Church. His
father had changed his name in 1781 to Conyngham. Francis was Lieutenant
Governor of Quebec. Sir Francis died 20.01.1832 aged 66 years at his residence in
Pulteney Street, Bath and Valentina died 04.02.1844 at her residence at Clifton.
3 Hon Charlotte Louisa Lawless born circa 21.01.1769 married Edward Wadding-Plunkett
14th Baron of Dunsany son of Randall Plunkett on 20.06.1803. Charlotte was the
grandmother of Sir Horace Plunkett. Charlotte died on 10.06.1819 at Pisa. Edward
married Eliza Kinnaird daughter of George Kinnaird and Elizabeth Ransom on
26.03.1822 at Edinburgh. Edward died 11.12.1848 at Clifden.
4 Robert Lawless born circa 1771 in Dublin.
5 Hon Valentine Browne Lawless eldest son born 19.08.1773 at Merrion Square, Dublin.
Valentine was imprisoned after the 1798 rising becoming 2nd Lord Cloncurry on the
death of his father in 1799. Valentine married Elizabeth Georgiana Morgan daughter
of Lt Gen Charles Morgan on 16.04.1803 in Rome. In 1807 Valentine sued Sir John Piers
for seducing his wife causing a huge scandal, Valentine won the court case and Piers
lost all his estates. They were divorced on 26.04.1811.
1 Hon Mary Margaret Lawless born circa 1804 married John Michael Henry Fock,
Baron de Robeck on 30.09.1820 at Lyons, Kildare and had 5 children. They were
divorced in December 1827 and Mary then married the Right Hon Lord Sussex
Lenox on 03.04.1928 at the Chapel of the British Embassy at Paris.
2 Hon Valentine Anne Lawless eldest son born circa 07.04.1805 in Rome. He died
unmarried on 24.01.1825 at the house of Baron de Robeck in Dublin and is buried
at Lyons Estate Church at Celbridge.
He married secondly Emily Douglas daughter of Archibald Douglas and Mary Crosbie
and widow of Hon Joseph Leeson on 30.06.1811 at Carnallwey, Kildare. Valentine died
28.10.1853 aged 80 years at Maretimo. Funeral on 01.11.1853 and burial at Lyons Castle,
Kildare. Emily died 15.06.1841 in London.
3 Hon Emily Lawless born circa 1812 died on 29.03.1825 aged 13 years at Chudleigh
in Devonshire.
4 Hon Edward Lawless born 13.10.1816 became 3rd Baron Cloncurry. Edward married
Elizabeth Kirwan born 28.03.1812 daughter of John Kirwan of Castle Hacket, Galway
on 17.09.1839 at Lyons. Edward died 03.04.1869 as the result of a fall from an
upstairs window at Lyons Castle. The inquest found that he was 'of unsound mind' and
that he was 'unaccountable for his acts'. Elizabeth died 08.05.1895 at Maretimo.
1 Valentine Frederick Lawless eldest son born 03.11.1840 at Lyons became 4th Baron
Cloncurry in 1869. He married Hon Laura Sophia Priscilla Winn eldest daughter of
Rowland Winn, 1st Baron St Oswald on 23.01.1883 at the Church of St Olave, Nostell
Priory, Wakefield. Sophia died 29.10.1891. Valentine died on 12.02.1928 aged 87
years at his residence Lyons House.
1 Mary Hermione Lawless born 23.05.1886 in London and died 20.11.1922 aged
36 years at 79 Upper Leeson Street and is buried at Lyons.
2 Kathleen Emily Marie Lawless born 28.03.1888 in London and died in 1957.
When Kathleen died the cousins Lyons property passed to G. Mark V Winn
who sold it to UCD in 1962.
2 Col Edward Lawless born 13.09.1841 at Upper Mount Street of the 3rd Batt Royal
Dublin Fusiliers married Mary Elizabeth Burton daughter of Rev Benjamin Burton of
Burton Hall on 16.06.1880 at Painstown Church. Edward died 24.04.1921 aged 79
years at Bryanstown and Mary died 06.07.1924 aged 68 years at Hale, Farnham.
3 John Henry Lawless 3rd son born Jan 1843 died 28.04.1846 of scarlatina at Lyon.
4 Emily Lawless eldest daughter born 17.06.1845 died unmarried on 19.10.1913
aged 69 years at her residence in Surrey.
5 Frederick Lawless born 20.04.1847 at Lyons and on the death of his brother
became 5th Baron Cloncurry. Frederick died 18.06.1929 buried Lyons.
6 Son Lawless born 04.11.1848 at Nassau Street. Infant son died 19.04.1849 at
Lyons.
7 Elizabeth Lawless born circa 1850 died 1929 and is buried at Lyons Churchyard.
8 Major Denis Lawless born 17.07.1854 of the Rifle Brigade died 05.10.1900 at
Blackrock.
9 Rose Lawless born circa 1851 died by drowning on 09.11.1891 at Lyons aged 41
years and is buried at Lyons.
10 Mary Lawless born circa 1855 married William Blacker of Castle Martin son of
Thomas Blacker on 28.04.1877 at Newcastle Lyons. Mary died on 21.06.1885 at
Charleville the residence of Lord Monck in Enniskerry from an accidental overdose
of laudanum. William died 21.11.1907 at Weston, Straffan from a hunting accident.
5 Hon Cecil John Lawless 2nd son born circa 01.08.1820 married Frances Georgina Digby
Townsend daughter of Jonas Morris Townsend and Jane Digby on 07.02.1848 at St Peter’s
Dublin. Cecil died shortly after his father’s funeral on 05.11.1853 aged 33 years.

2 Elinor Sweetman married her cousin John Sweetman who died circa 09.02.1784.
1 Patrick Sweetman married Eleanor Thunder of Lagore, Meath. Will of Patrick dated 14.03.1792 proved
25.11.1793.
1 Michael Joseph Sweetman 1779-1852 married Alicia Taafe of Smarmore Castle. Purchased
Longtown in 1882.
2 John Patrick Sweetman 2nd son born circa 1752 banished in 1796.
