St Clair Family of Beaufield, Stillorgan
 
William Augustus Edmund St Clair youngest son of James Louis St Clair of Staverton Court,
Gloucestershire.  William was educated at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich and joined the Royal
Engineers in 1873.  He served in the Afghan War of 1878-80, the Soudan Expedition of 1885 and the
South African War.

William married Louise Gabrielle Chawshay daughter of the late Walter Crawshay of Nevers, France
in Paris in 1886.  At the outbreak of the Great War he was appointed Commanding Officer of the
Royal Engineers, Dublin district and was awarded the C.M.G.  He retired in 1905 and went to live in
Kent.  He inherited the Beacon in Dormansland from his Aunt.

1                Doreen Gabrielle St Clair born 27.06.1896 at Beaufield, Stillorgan.  Doreen died on
                  13.07.1935 in Sussex.
