1 Nugent Spinks born circa 1853 in County Cavan married Elizabeth (Lizzy)
Walmsley, a cook from Co Meath at Portanclough Parish Church, Adbraccan on
7 Jun 1881. Elizabeth born circa 1861 in County Meath was the daughter of
Henry Walmsley (1833-1899), a stone cutter and his wife Margaret McCracken
(1827-1902). They lived at Heathlands and Nugent was coachman to Dr Wilson’s
School. Nugent died 27 Jul 1927 and Lizzy died 1 May 1930. Both died at
Heathlands with their son William in attendance.
1 Nugent Spinks born 7 Mar 1882 at Heathlands Multyfarnham joined the RIC.
A constable, he was based at the Phoenix park when he died from TB on
12 May 1913.
2 Henry Spinks born 27 Jan 1884 died 8 April 1885 at Heathlands.
3 William Spinks born 12 Jun 1885 was a gardener before joining the RIC. He
was dismissed from the RIC in 1920 and by 1927 is living at Heathlands.
4 Mary Spinks born 1 May 1887 went into domestic service. She became
pregnant and gave birth to a daughter at Heathlands on 11 Apr 1909. The
infant was ‘nursed out’ and died in December 1910. Mary never married
and worked as a cook in Castle Park School, Dalkey.
5 Rose Amelia Spinks born 20 Apr 1889 went into service and died a spinster
on 10 Nov 1924 at Heathlands.
6 Dorothy Spinks 25 Aug 1891 went into domestic service. She was working at
Merville (UCD Campus) in 1911. She married Nesbitt St George Treacey on
10 Jun 1919 at Dublin City Registrar’s office, both gave an address of Fortfield
place, Rathgar. He was a clerk and she was a servant at the time of their
marriage. They had a number of daughters together and Dorothy died at
Sir Patrick Dun’s Hospital in 1940. Nesbit, a dental technician, died
14 Dec 1952 at 57 Highfield Road, Rathgar age 63.
7 Hannah Margaret Spinks born 15 Oct 1893 married Alexander Patterson on
20 Nov 1929 at Leney Ballinalack.
8 Margaret Spinks born 27 Nov 1895 went into domestic service and worked at
Dr Wilson’s School. She married William Eccleston, from Belfast, son of
Ralph Eccleston, on 2 Jul 1913 at Leney Church, Westmeath. Prior to the
marriage, William, who was working at the school as a carpenter was arrested
for abducting Margaret but told the court that they were to be married the
following week. William became a motor driver and moved to Killishandra in
Co Cavan where he died 10 Nov 1914.
