Patrick Smyth born circa 1863 in Queens County son of Patrick Smyth, a farmer. He was a
constable with the DMP and married Margaret Doyle at Doonane, Queen’s County on
7 Nov 1893. Margaret was the daughter of Denis Doyle, a farmer. In 1911 they were living
at Kilmainham and four of their five children had survived. Patrick bred and showed Wire
Fox Terriers. Patrick died on 17 Sep 1929 and Margaret died 17 Jun 1933 both at Rockville,
Dundrum their son Patrick Christopher was the informant. Both are buried at Glasnevin.

2 Patrick Christopher Smyth born 4 Jun 1896 at Ross Street, Dublin was a civil servant.
He married Mary and they lived at Garryhill, Merton Drive, Ranelagh where Mary
died aged 44 on 4 May 1949 and was buried at Ballinkillen, Co Carlow. Secondly
Patrick married Una and they lived at Garryhill, Bailey, Howth. Parick died
11 Aug 1958 at his home and was buried at St Fintan’s Sutton.
3 Mary Smyth born Dublin city 1899. She worked as a clerk and was involved with the
administration of the Irish Kennel Club and she both exhibited and judged. She died
unmarried on 13 Dec 1944 at a Nursing home in Leeson Street, late of 160
Drumcondra Road. Her funeral was held at the Carmelite Church in Clarendon Street
and she was buried at Glasnevin.
4 Denis Joseph (DJ) Smyth born 27 May 1903 at Chapelizod. He was a civil servant and
lived at Rockville, Dundrum from 1925 to 1936. In 1927 he bought ‘Garryowen of
Dunema’ and joined the Kennel Club. He had kennels at Rockville and bred German
Shepherds. Another prize winning dog was Adele of Rockville. He began to judge in
1929, getting his first assignment in Belfast, where he judged German shepherds. He
was a HonSec of the Irish Kennel Club from 1939 and later chairman. He wrote about
dogs for the Sporting Press. He met his wife, a Dalmatian owner through the Kennel
Club in 1947. He retired from the Department of An Taoiseach in 1965 and became a
director of the Irish Kennel Club and later a trustee. He died on the 9 Jun 1986 and was
buried at Mount Jerome.
