Michael Smith born circa 1740 to William Smith and Hester Lynch at Newtown, County Offaly,
married Mary Cusack, daughter and heiress of James Cusack of Ballyronan, Co Wicklow, and
Coolmines, Co Dublin. He was returned as MP for Randalstown in 1783, Baron of the Exchequer
in 1793 and created Baronet in 1799. Belfield farm at Kilmacud was one of his country seats
from 1785 to 1799 but this farm at Kilmacud on 45 acres and the Ballyronan, Co Wicklow farm
on 63 acres was up for sale from 1795, he was still trying to sell his Kilmacud property in 1799.
Maryanne died circa 1798. His town houses was at Harcourt street, a 2 roomed house with
stabling for 11 horses and a coach house for 4 carriages. He was appointed Master of the rolls
and retired in 1806 on a pension of 2700L plus 200L as an ex commissioner of the Public
Accounts. In 1807 he disposed of the Harcourt Street house and moved to St Stephen’s Green.
1 William Smith eldest son born circa 1766 in Dublin. He was educated at Eton and at
Christ Church, Oxford and graduated in 1788. He was called to the Irish bar in 1788 and
was made a King's counsel in 1795. In the same year he entered parliament for the
borough of Donegal. He took his mother’s name (Cusack) by Royal Licence in 1800 after
her death. He married Hester Berry, daughter of Thomas Berry of Eglish Castle, Kings
County and became the 2nd Baronet on the death of his father. He suffered from
rheumatic gout from 1828 and in August 1836 Smith fell ill while on circuit and stayed on
at Newtown, King's County and died there on 26 Aug 1836. The sale of his valuable
library by Charles Sharpe, auctioneer took place in Dublin in 1837 and contained over 4000
volumes excluding his law library and occupied four days. His house Ashfield in County
Dublin was also put up for sale in 1837.
1 Michael Cusack Smith born circa 1793 became 3rd Baronet in 1837 on the death of
his father. He married Eliza Moore and died 16 May 1859 at Leybourne Rectory, Kent.
1 William Cusack Smith served with the 4th Royal Wurtenburg Lancers and
became the 4th Baronet on the death of his father.
2 Thomas Berry Cusack Smith followed his father and grandfather into the law and
became attorney general of Ireland in 1842.
1 William Robert Cusack Smith only son born circa 1830 married Mary Blanche
Chisenhale, daughter of John Chisenhale-Chisenhale at Theydon Garnon,
Essex on 20 Aug 1856.

2 Angelina Smith married Smith Steel on 3 Apr 1787 at St Peters Dublin.
He secondly married Eleanor Smith, daughter of Michael Smith. Michael died at Newtown on
17 Dec 1808. Dowager Lady Eleanor Smith died at Cheltenham on 24 Nov 1825.
3 Michael William Smith born circa 1809 posthumously married Charlotte Carr, eldest
daughter of George W Carr of New Ross at New Ross on 6 Aug 1830.
