Hugh Singleton born circa 1796 son of Edward Singleton of Quinville Abbey, Co Clare.
He married Jane Massy at Doonass Church in June 1826. Jane was the youngest
daughter of John Massy of Waterpark. Hugh had numerous altercations with his
tenants and neighbours. He was fired at on occasion and his bailiff (Anthony McMahon)
was killed in 1847. Lead was discovered on his land in 1835 and it was said to be pure
ore and the richest vein found in Ireland. Jane died on 27 Feb 1842 at Hazelwood and
was buried at the family grave at Kilnasoolagh. Hugh died on 29 Sep 1878 at Hazelwood
and was buried at Kilnasoolagh. He left 4K in personal estate. Hugh's brother Edward
died at Hazelton a few months later.

2 Marcella Mildred Singleton, second daughter born July 1828 at Hazelwood
married Captain Charles William Thompson of the 7th Princess Royal Dragoon
Guards on 20 Feb 1854, at St Michael’s Church, Quin. Marcella died from measles
at Cairo on her passage back from India on 9 Nov 1867. She left behind a young
family.
3 Edward Massey Singleton born 13 Apr 1830 at Hazelwood. He was land agent to
Cornelius Creagh. He was appointed a magistrate for Co Clare in 1855. He
married Sarah Lydia Rawson on 11 Aug 1866 at Whitby. Sarah was the second
daughter of John Rawson of Woodhouse-Hall, Huddersfield. He purchased the
thousand acre Preston Park Estate in 1871 for 60K. He inherited Hazelwood
House (subsequently burnt to the ground on 5 Jul 1921 by the IRA.) He put
Preston Deanery up for sale in 1899 and moved to Newton Abbot, Devonshire.
Edward died on 15 Nov 1912 and was buried in Somerset. Sarah died 17 Apr 1920
and was buried with her husband.

4 John Copley Singleton second son born January 1832 at Hazelwood. He married
Elizabeth (Lizzie) Bindon at Quin Parish Church on 9 Dec 1856. Elizabeth, a minor
was the daughter of the late Burton Bindon of Cloney. Her father was the owner
of the Red Bank Oyster Banks and the proprietor of the Red Bank Oyster
Restaurant in D'Olier Street. John was resident at Hazelwood, Co Clare. They were
living in Grove House Stillorgan in 1880/1 and at 4 Ailesbury Road in 1884/5. John
died 7 Mar 1890 at Clooney, the home of his brother in law Joseph Hall (husband
of Ellen Bindon). He had been suffering from paralysis for three months. He left
6K in personal estate. Elizabeth died on 27 Dec 1918 aged 83. Both are buried at
Clooney graveyard.

7 Mary Maud Singleton second daughter born 5 May 1867 at Rock View,
Limerick. She died at Ailesbury Road, Merrion on 26 Jun 1885.
8 Eleanor Josephine Singleton elder daughter married Walter Craven of
Kimberly on 16 Jul 1896 at St Stephen’s Church, Bayswater.
9 Elizabeth Singleton born 25 Aug 1871 at Kenilworth Square married widower,
Davys Tuckey from Clooney in 1904 in London. In 1911 they was living in
Dublin with his children and she had no issue. Davys died at Clooney on
4 Jun1921 and was buried at Mount Jerome. Lily died on 29 Dec 1936 while
travelling on a bus to Churchtown. She had been staying at the Berwick
Holiday Home. She was buried in Mount Jerome with her husband.
5 Mary Henrietta Jane Singleton born at Hazelwood in May 1834 married William
Varley of the 7th Dragoons Guards at Trinity Church, Murree, India on 21 Aug 1860.
6 Hugh Massey Singleton third son born circa 1841 married Louisa Lean on
27 Apr 1876. Louisa was the third daughter of daughter Francis Lean, Paymaster RN.
He was a student at the Royal Veterinary College living at Islington with his wife in
1881 and the couple had no children. Louisa died a widow at 6 Florence Terrace,
Ealing on 14 Dec 1917 age 73.
7 Annie Mildred Singleton youngest daughter born October 1838 at Hazelwood. She
married Thomas Hall McGhee 30 Apr 1861 at Quin Parish Church. Thomas was a
linen merchant and the son of John McGhee of Lurgan, Co Armagh. Annie was a
skilled horsewoman and hunted with the Curraghmore Hounds. The couple lived
at Blarney, Cork. Annie died at St Anne’s Hill, Blarney on 9 May 1884 from a
fractured skull after being thrown from an unschooled horse she had purchased
the day before.
