Thomas Simmons son of Isaac Simmons of Mountrath married Mary Wyly nee Jessop* daughter of
Andrew and Frances Jessop and widow of Jacob Wyly on 06.01.1748. Mary died 1758 and Thomas
married Hannah Bewley daughter of Mungo Bewley of Edenderry in 1763. Thomas was a poplin
merchant with premises at 23 Meath Street at the sign of the shuttle.

1 Isaac Simmons eldest son born 19.09.1748 at Meath Street. On the death of his father,
Isaac took over the business in 1775. He married Elizabeth Pim daughter of Moses Pim and
Experience Strettle on 15.03.1781 at Mountrath. By 1803 Isaac owned a house and nearly
11 acres of land in Roebuck in the Parish of Taney where he lived and had land in Westmeath
which he leased out. In 1816 the Walpoles joined their uncle Mr Simmons and together they
operated a store on Suffolk Street Dublin with a reputation for high quality Irish Linen. They
traded as Simmons and Walpole until 1847 when the name of Simmons was dropped. From
1858 they operated a store in London moving to New Bond Street in 1862. In 1966 Walpoles
celebrated 200 years of trading. Isaac died on 10.04.1825 at Roebuck and was buried at the
Friends Burial Ground, Cork Street. After Isaac’s death the House and land at Roebuck were
put up for sale.

2 Mary Simmons born 01.02.1783 and died 06.09.1783 and was buried in Friends Burial
Ground in Cork Street.
3 Thomas Simmons born 11.04.1784 and died on 21.06.1784 aged 2 months and was
buried at the Friends Burial Ground in Cork Street.
4 Elizabeth Simmons born 08.04.1785 married Joshua Strangman Conran son of
John and Louisa Conran of Maze, Co Down on 18.11.1806. Joshua late of Lower
Clanbrassil Street died on 16.03.1861 at Rock Lane, Lower Baggot Street.

Joshua and Lydia Clibborn on 15.12.1778 at Dublin. Thomas died on 09.10.1840 aged 92 years
at Granite Lodge, Kingstown.

Burial Ground in Cork Street.
4 Susannah Simmons born 04.03.1753 at Meath Street and died 13.06.1754.
5 Sarah Simmons born 03.10.1755 at Meath Street married Thomas Robinson son of Anthony
Robinson of Killogenahan, Westmeath on 23.08.1776 at the Friends Meeting House, Sycamore
Place, Dublin.
6 Hannah Simmons born 26.12.1756 at Meath Street married James Walpole son of William and
Hannah Walpole on 24.06.1787 at Mountmellick.
7 Mary Simmons born 18.04.1757 at Meath Street died on 27.10.1758 and is buried at the Friends
Burial Ground in Cork Street.
*Mary Jessop daughter of Andrew and Frances Jessop married Jacob Wyly son of John and Elizabeth
Wyly of Rathangan on 20.03.1744 in Dublin and had one daughter Frances.
