Frederick Simmons married Sarah Emily Thurlow, daughter of John Thurlow, a carpenter and
Charlotte Calliby of Tittleshall In Norfolk at Mitford on 26 Sep 1899. Fred was born in England the son
of Thomas Simmons, a farmer but was living in the parish of Dundrum by 1899. He worked at
Roebuck Castle from 1901 until his death in 1931.
Fred volunteered with the Red Cross from 1914 to 1919. His service records notes that he
'Devoted himself to growing flowers, fruit & vegetables for the Red X funds & for everything in
connection with War Charities - helping at Stalls & sales, & without whose valuable work much help
would have been lost.' British Red Cross & Order of St John, Joint War Committee.
Emily died at the Meath Hospital on 9 Jul 1917. Fred late of Roebuck Castle Lodge died at Sir Patrick
Dun's Hospital on 12 Aug 1931 and was buried at Mount Jerome.

3 John Thomas Simmons born 1905 in Mitford in Norfolk. John was a gardener, he worked with his
father at Roebuck Castle until it was sold and then at Campfield House in Drummartin. He died a
bachelor at Campfield on 26 Oct 1963.
4 Annie Simmons born 17 Oct 1908 at Roebuck Castle Lodge. She married Edward Ernest Crespin
at St Thomas's Church, Fosters Avenue on 16 Sep 1939. Edward was a bus conductor and the son
of Claude Crespin, a porter at Trinity and his wife Ellen Bertha Pellet of Woodfield Tce in Inchicore.
Annie and Ernest lived at 1 Castle Cottages in Roebuck, they had two children.
