Denys Scully born on 4 May 1773, seventh child and second son of James Scully (1737–1816) of
Kilfeacle and his wife Catherine Lyons. The Scully family were a wealthy Roman Catholic
landowning family. As eldest son he married Mary Huddleston on 26 Nov 1801 at Mary-le
Bone Church in London. Mary was the eldest daughter of Ferdinand Huddleston of Sawston
Hall, Cambridge. They lived at Baggot Street and Kilfeacle. Mary died at Thayer Street, London
on 12 Apr 1806. Denys was a barrister and the author of ' A Statement of the Penal Laws,
which Aggrieve the Catholics of Ireland' and friend of Daniel O'Connell.
He secondly married Catherine Eyre on 8 Sep 1808 at Sheffield. Catherine was the daughter of
Vincent Eyre of Sheffield Park, near Sheffield, and his wife Catherine. He died 25 Oct 1830 at
Kilfeacle and was buried in the family grave on the Rock of Cashel. His 16000 area estate brought
in an income of 12K per annum.
1 James Vincent Scully born circa 1809 attended Trinity College, Cambridge and admitted
Gray's Inn. He inherited his father's estate but was considered a harsh landlord who
exacted a 'rack rent'. He was murdered on 26.11.1842 at Kilfeacle having survived an
earlier attempt in April that year. He was a magistrate and grand juror and died a
bachelor.
2 Vincent James Scully second son born 8 Sep 1810. He was educated at Oscott, a Catholic
school in Staffordshire and later at Trinity College, Dublin admitted Kings Inn in 1833. He
married Susanna Grogan, youngest daughter of the late John Grogan of 11 Harcourt Street
on 6 Sep 1841 at St Andrew's Westland Row. He succeeded to the Kilfeacle estate on the
death of his older brother. He was a QC and MP for Cork 1852-1857 and 1859-1865. He
was a director of the Tipperary Bank from 1848 to 1854 with John Sadlier who was the son
of his aunt Joanna Sadlier nee Scully. When not at parliament he lived mainly at 13 Mount
Merrion Square South. In 1867 he erected a monument and vault at St Patricks rock on the
Rock of Cashel in memory of the Scully family. He later employed Messrs Early & Powell,
ecclesiastical furnishings and stained glass manufacturers of Camden Street to erect a Celtic
cross to surmount the monument and it was installed in August 1870. The cross was 25
feet tall and was made from 4 pieces of Portland stone and highly decorated on both sides.
He died 4 Jun 1871 at The Ferns, John's Wood, Grove End, London after succumbing to
Scarlatina and was buried at the Rock of Cashel.

2 Vincent Scully only son, born 1 Aug 1846 married Emma Eliza Mary Clare Barron daughter
of Pierse Marcus Barron of Belmont Park, Waterford on 28 Nov 1871. The couple lived at
Golden in Cashel and had at least six children. Vincent was the owner of land in Kansas.
Emma died at Loughlinstown House in April 1890 age 44.
1 Vincent Marcus Barron Scully youngest son born 2 Jul 1881 at Baggot Street
enlisted with Royal Irish Regiment. He married Pleasance Johnston nee Alt in
February 1924. He secondly married Sybil De La P Beresford in 1938 in London.
He died at a nursing home in Reading on 13 Dec 1941.
Vincent secondly married Amelia Eliza Barron on 22 Jul 1897. Amy was the youngest
daughter of John Netterville Barron of the 59th regiment. Vincent died 2 Nov 1927 and
was buried at the family vault on the Rock of Cashel.
3 Daughter born 1 August 1853 at Merrion Square.
3 Rodolph Henry Scully born 12 Mar 1812. He was a solicitor based at 9 Fitzgibbon Street. He
died 06.08.1876 at Goodwood Lodge, Lee Park, Kent.
4 Catherine Juliana Maria Scully born circa 1813 married Antonio Publicola, Prince of Santa Croce,
Duke of Corchiana, Count de le Toree and Grandee of Spain, on 25 Nov 1847. Princess Catherine
died 16.02.1864 at Rome and the Prince died in Florence on 12 Oct 1867 age 50. They had
three daughters and no male heir so the title became extinct.
1 Louisa Maria Thomassina Publicola Santa Croce born 10 Nov 1848 married Marchese
Aldobrandino Rangoni.
2 Vincenza Marie Anne Publicola Santa Croce born 1850 at the Santa Croce palace married
Dom Bosio sforza Condi de Santa Fiora on 4 Oct 1869.
3 Valerie Marie Ann Publicola Santa Croce born 7 Dec 1853.
5 Marianne Scully born circa 1815 died a spinster 2 May 1898 at the Jette St Pierre Convent, Brussels.
6 Juliana Scully born circa 1816 died 1816.
7 Thomas Joseph Denys Scully born circa 1817 was a magistrate, he lived and managed the farm
at Kilfeacle after the death of his brother James. He died 13.04.1857 in Cork.
8 Julia Maria Teresa Scully born circa 1819 became a nun with the Sacred Heart nuns in Glasnevin,
making frequent trips to Rome before buying Mount Anville on behalf of the community. She
became Superioress of Mount Anville before moving to a convent in Roscrea, she died
01.02.1890 at Mount St Catherine, Armagh.
9 William Francis John Scully youngest son born 21.11.1821 at Kilfeacle, Tipperary attended
Stonyhurst College.
1 John Scully born 1849, mother's name unknown.
William bought land in the Illinois in 1850. He married Margaret Mary Sweetman born circa
1831 daughter of Michael Joseph Sweetman on 07.05.1851 at St Andrew’s Church. Margaret
died on 20.05.1861 at Avignon, France. William converted to Protestantism in 1862 and was
living in Washington in 1900. William died 17.10.1906 aged 84 years in London.
1 Mary Gertrude Scully born 11.02.1852 baptised 1852 at St Andrew’s Church, Dublin
and died 07.01.1929 at 22 Burton Court, Chelsea.
2 Julia Scully born 23.09.1853 Illinois died 21.06.1947 at Greystones.
3 Kathleen Scully born 04.12.1854 Illinois died 04.07.1933 at Crowborough, Sussex.
