Saurin Family of Carysfort House
William Saurin born circa 1757, second son of the Rev James Saurin and Jane Duff of Belfast.
He was educated at Duboudien's school in Lisburn. He graduated Trinity and was called to
the Irish bar in 1780. He was Attorney General for Ireland from 1807 to 1822 when he was
dismissed from the Attorney General's Office when he refused the office of Lord Chief Justice
of Ireland. He married to Mary O’Brien, widow of Sir Richard Cox, daughter of Edward
O'Brien and niece to the Rt Hon Earl of Inchiquin at Molesworth Street on 23.01.1786. He
was a determined opponent of Catholic Emancipation and a passionate opponent of the Act
of Union. William had a serious accident in 1835 when out horse riding in Carysfort Park.
His horse was startled by a swan and he was thrown and broke his thigh bone and hip.
William died 11.02.1839 aged 82 and Mary died 28.01.1840 at their residence at 32 St
Stephens Green. The Saurin family lived at Carysfort House from 1802 to 1863.
1 James Saurin born circa 1787 graduated Trinity BA 1806, MA 1832 died at Flood Hall
on 20.10.1875.
2 Sarah Saurin born circa 1788 married John Flood of Floodhall, Kilkenny circa January
1811. Sarah died died in 17 Sep 1879 at Flood Hall.
3 Edward Saurin born circa 1791 joined the Royal Navy in 1803 and lost his arm in 1812.
He married Lady Mary Ryder 2nd daughter of the Earl of Harrowby on 15.07.1828 at St
George’s Church, Hanover Square. He attained the rank of Admiral and retired in 1846.
He died on 28 Feb 1878 at Princes' Gate. Lady Mary died in 1900 aged 99.
4 Lewis Saurin born circa 1792 graduated Trinity BA in 1813 and took Holy orderss. He
died at 32 St Stephen's Green in July 1829.
5 Mark Anthony Saurin born circa 1793, youngest son of Right Hon William and Lady Mary Saurin.
Mark married Anna Maria Poore on 09.12.1839 at Abinger Church, Surrey. Anna was the widow
of the late Robert M Poore (died 1837) of Wiltshire and 2nd daughter of the late James
Massay-Dawson of the Glen, Tipperary. She came to the marriage with one son Robert born in
1834. Mark was solicitor of Irish Excise and Inland Revenue and Churchwarden of Stillorgan
Parish church in 1840. He had land in Tipperary and died on 03.07.1862 at Carysfort House,
Blackrock leaving nearly 50K in personal estate. Anna Maria died 15.05.1865 at Carysfort House
aged 59 and left 40K in personal estate. The couple had no children. Anna's heir and executor
was her son Robert from her first marriage.
6 Harriet Saurin, youngest daughter died at 32 St Stephen's Green on 4 Apr 1862.

1 Robert Montague Poore born 05.05.1834 at Naples, Italy. Robert late of the 8th Hussars
married Juliana Benita Corry eldest daughter of late Rear Admiral Armar Corry on
05.05.1863 at at All Saints, Paddington, London. The family lived at Carysfort House until
1866 and were living in Bath in 1871. Robert late Brevet Major in the 8th Hussars died
circa 22.01.1918 at Bournemouth aged 83 years.
1 Louisa Benita Poore born 05.03.1864 at Carysfort House, Blackrock married Sir
Alexander Wilson son of late Rev David Wilson on 28.11.1896 at St Luke’s Church,
Chelsea.
2 Robert Montagu Poore eldest son born 20.03.1866 at Carysfort House, Blackrock of
the 17th Hussars married Lady Flora Maria Ida Hamilton on 29.09.1898 in the Picture
Gallery of Hamilton Palace.
3 Anna Maria Poore born circa 1868 in Geneva married Sir Harold Pelly on 05.03.1889 at
St Peters Church, Eaton Square, London.
4 Mark Saurin Poore 2nd son born 26.05.1869 Bath, Somerset married Irene Watts only
child of W Watts of Hanslope Park on 09.08.1900 at Hanslope Church.
5 Roger Alvin Poore 3rd son born 08.07.1870 Bath married Lorna Margery Dennistoun
circa December 1913. Roger was killed in action on 26.09.1917 in France.
6 Philip Poore 4th son born 04.06.1874 Hampshire married Cicely Eleanor Barry eldest
daughter of Col Sir Edward Barry of Ockwells Manor, Berks on 16.10.1918.
7 Nina Mary Benita Poore youngest daughter born 13.05.1878 married Duke Alfred
Douglas Hamilton of Hamilton and Brandon on 04.12.1901 at Salisbury. Her brother
Robert had married Flora sister of the Duke.
2 Nina Louisa Poore born 20.05.1836 daughter of Robert and Anna died circa 29.08.1849 at
Carysfort Avenue, Blackrock aged 13 years.
