Henry John Carey born circa 1877 of William Street in the city of Dublin married Eliza Verling of
Monkstown on the 7 Nov 1837. Eliza was the daughter of Watkin William Verling of French Street.
Henry of Carysfort Avenue died 16 Sep 1837 and was buried at St Peter’s. Eliza died 14 Aug 1838 and
was buried at St Peters.

2 Henry Carey second son born 23 Apr 1810 in Dublin graduated Trinity and was called to the
bar in 1834. He joined the RDS the same year. His practice was at Upper Mount Street later
moving to Fitzwilliam Street. He married Meliora Thompson on 11 Apr 1835 at
Knockeroghery Church. Meliora was the daughter of David Thompson of Roscommon.
Meliora died 27 Feb 1840 at Hatch Street from consumption aged 23 and was buried at St
Peter’s.
1 Mary Elizabeth Carey born 30 Nov 1836 at Upper Fitzwilliam Street married George
Cronyn on 9 Dec 1857 at St Peter’s Church, Dublin. George was an MD from Callan,
Co Kilkenny and the son of Abraham P Cronyn, MD. George died 27 Dec 1863 at
The Lodge, Callan aged 39 and left 1500 in personal estate.

Mary secondly married George McKern on 16 Aug 1865 at Monkstown Church.
Henry secondly married Emily Frances Cannon on 12 Mar 1842 at Monkstown Church. Emily
was the third daughter of Thomas Cannon of Bruff, Co Limerick. Henry was Registrar of the
Landed Estate Courts and Secretary to the Encumbered Estates Commission. He was called
as a witness for the defence in the trial of Charles Gavan Duffy and gave him a good reference.
Henry died 31 Oct 1871 at 10 Hatch Street. Emily died 25 Dec 1893 at 10 Hatch Street.
2 Henry Goff Carey only son born 10 Jan 1843 at Holles Street was a clerk in the
landed estates Court. He married Florence Anne Devenish Meares on 22 Dec 1876.
Florence was the daughter of John Devenish Meares of 11 Upper Pembroke Street
and Meares Court, Co Westmeath. Florence died 23 Jul 1877 at Waterloo Place late
of 11 Upper Pembroke Street and left 1K in personal estate.
1 John Henry Florence Carey only son born 15 Jun 1877 at 33 Waterloo
Place joined the Royal Navy. He married Frances Stuart Irene Devenish-
Meares on 22 Jul 1920 at Holy Trinity Church, Rathmines. Frances was
the daughter of Joseph Leycester Devenish-Meares. Lieutenant
Commander Carey died 14 Jan 1934 at Winona, Balbriggan on 14 Jan 1934
and was buried at Mount Jerome.
Henry secondly married Jane Hinchcliffe Frye at St Luke’s, Jersey on 23 Feb 1884.
Henry died 16 Oct 1886 at 2 Victoria Villas, Jersey. Jane was the daughter of George
A Frye of Havre de Pas, St Helier.
3 Richard Carey third son of Henry Carey, Solicitor was born circa 1812 in Dublin. He graduated
Trinity in 1833 and worked as a clerk in the Office of the Exchequer. He married Olivia Parks
on 17 Dec 1842 at Monkstown Church without them consulting or informing her father. Olivia
was the daughter of Paul Parks, a collector of taxes and revenue in Dundalk. Her sister Maria
died aged 22 in 1841 and Olivia moved to Kingstown where she met Richard. Her sister
Elizabeth married Edward Martin, son of Robert Martin, corn-merchant, of Preston in 1843.
Her father died in 1846 and left his property to a nephew. Olivia queried the validity of the
second Will through the courts and although she had already been provided previously with
a gift of 13K, she won her case. Richard was a member of the RDS from 1838 and they lived at
various houses in the area including Almaston, on Avoca Avenue and Beaufield House. Olivia
died at 59 Northumberland Road on 26 Apr 1886 and left 4K in personal estate. Richard
donated 5K to the Adelaide Hospital to open a ward in her memory. Richard was on the board
of the Stillorgan Convalescent Home from 1888 and in 1901 Richard was a pensioner of HM
Exchequer and lived at Abilene with his nurse Mary Fagan. Richard a died at Theberton,
Stillorgan Park on 7 Mar 1904. His nurse Mary Fagan the informant and Alfred H Betham his
executor. No issue found.
4 Esther Jane Carey eldest daughter born circa 1818 married Connell William McNamara of
51 York Street on 11 May 1839 at St Peter’s Dublin.
5 William Thornhill Carey youngest son born Dublin circa 1820 married Mary Renwick on
25 May 1858 at St Georges Church Dublin. Mary was the youngest daughter of Lieut Col
Edward Renwick. William was resident at Longwood Avenue. Molyneux Betham a witness.
William died 31 Dec 1863 at Springfield Lodge, Leixlip, Dublin.
6 Eliza Carey, youngest daughter born circa 1821 married Sheffield Betham in February 1842.
