Quinn of Drommartin Castle
The Quinns were a long established family in the district. There were two branches of the family.
One in Dundrum and one in Neilstown.

Patrick Quin born circa 1860 married Margaret Gaffney at Holy Cross Dundrum on 10 Jul 1881.
Patrick was a mason and the son of John Quinn, a mason. Margaret was the daughter of Edward
Gafney, a labourer and both were resident at Goatstown. They lived in Rosemount, Dundrum in
1901, at 1 Campfield Terrace from 1904 to 1907 and at Sandford Road in 1911. They had eight
children all of whom were born in County Dublin. Patrick was a clerk of works and a builder. By
1925 they were living at Drommartin Castle and had an 8 acre holding, this was requisitioned by
the council to use as allotments in 1941 as he was in arrears of council tax to the amount of £290.
Margaret died 10 Jan 1941 at Drommartin Castle. Her funeral Mass was held at Holy Cross
Church and she was buried at St Nahi’s (Churchtown). Pat died 11 Jan 1953 at Drummartin
Castle. It is believed that Pat Quinn was the donor of the organ to Holycross Church.
1 Mary Quinn born 8 May 1882 at Dundrum was a dressmaker. She married John Thomas
Derham on 30 Aug 1906 at Holy Cross, Dundrum. John, a stonemason and the son of
Christopher Derham, a stonemason and his wife Mary Smyth, was resident at Rosemount.
They lived at 2 Campfield Terrace from 1925. John died 30 Dec 1955 and was buried at
Deansgrange. Mary died 20 May 1957 at 2 Campfield Terrace. Her funeral Mass was at
Holy Cross and she was buried with her husband.
1 Christopher (Christy) Derham born 30 Jun 1907 at Main Street Dundrum moved to
England. He married and was living in Chatham in 1939.
2 Margaret Geraldine Rita (Maggie/Rita) Derham born 5 Oct 1909 at Kilmacud Road,
Dundrum. She died a spinster on 28 Mar 1971 at 2 Campfield Terrace and was
buried at Deansgrange with her parents.
3 John Anthony Derham born 12 Jan 1912 at 9 Alexander Terrace, Dundrum
4 Mary Imelda (Mel) Derham born 4 Feb 1914 at Alexander Terrace, Dundrum.
5 Rosaleen Teresa Derham born 29 Jul 1917 at Alexander Terrace, Dundrum.
6 Veronica Shelia (Sheila) Derham born 5 Oct 1919 at Alexander Terrace Dundrum
worked at Lyons Tea and died a spinster at 2 Campfield Terrace and was buried
with her parents.
2 John Edward Quinn born 12 Jan 1885 at Eden Park, Dundrum.
3 Esther Quinn born 5 Mar 1887 at Goatstown, baptised at Holy Cross.
4 Christopher J Quinn born 8 Dec 1889 at Kilmacud Road.
5 Thomas Quinn born 20 Jun 1892 at Kilmacud Road.
6 Annie Quinn born 29 Sep 1894 at Kilmacud Road baptised at Holy Cross married Ernest
Sherwood and died 11 days before her 97th birthday at St Monica’s. She was buried at
Mount Jerome.
7 Patrick Joseph Quinn born circa 1897 in Co Dublin baptised at Holy Cross lived at Dromartin
Castle. He died in 1979.
8 Gerard Quinn born 4 Jun 1901 at Roebuck Cottages.
