Michael Power a corn and provision merchant lived at the Quay, Waterford opposite the graving bank
where is also had his stores. He applied to become a freeman of the city in 1830 but was refused
and had to carry on paying taxes on imports like salt from Liverpool and other UK Ports to which he
would be exempt from as a freeman. He also sold the cargo of wrecked ships. He died at his house
on the Quay, in Waterford on 21 Jan 1836.
1 John Thomas Power, eldest son died in Trinidad on 21 Sep 1835 where he had only resided
a few months.
2 Marianne Katherine Power eldest daughter born circa 1808 married John Everard Feehan,
K of St F, Captain in the Royal Irish on 20 May 1838 at Waterford. John was postmaster of
the City of Waterford and later appointer JP and then Mayor of the city in 1858. He died on
4 Apr 1862. Marianne Everard Feehan died 26 Sep 1875 and was buried at Ballygunner
graveyard.
1 Twin daughters Feehan born March 1839.
2 Mary Angela Feehan born March 1841 pronounced her final vows in the order of
Sacre Coeur at the Covent of Conflaus near Paris on 13 Nov 1861.
3 John J Everard Feehan was in Cooman, New South Wales by 1869.
3 Abigail Theresa Power second daughter born circa 1811 married Sylvester Phelan on
7 Jun 1834 at Trinity Church, Waterford. Sylvester was a Grocer, tea dealer, and wine and
spirit merchant at 2 High Street, Waterford. He was a town councillor and was Mayor of
Waterford in 1848. He died 12 Jul 1861 aged 64 at Tramore. Abigail died 30 Mar 1874 at
Beresford Street, Waterford.
1 Son Phelan born in May 1842 at Waterford.
4 Joseph Augustine Power born circa 1818 became a Jesuit priest. He was the superior of
the Franciscan Friary in Clonmel. He died at Tramore on 22 Jul 1876. He was interred at
the chapel at Clonmel.
5 Michael Joseph Power born circa 1820 was the manager of the National Bank of Ireland in
Castlerea. He married Rebecca Mary Hanley at Merrion Avenue, Blackrock on 15 Apr 1845.
Rebecca was the second daughter of Edmond Hanley of Waterford. The marriage was
registered at Booterstown Church. He was appointed secretary to the National Bank in
1863 and they moved to London. Rebecca died on 13 May 1867 at St John’s Wood, London,
her body was repatriated and she was interred at Glasnevin. Michael retired in 1869 and
died at Clapham, London on 6 Sep 1877.
1 Christopher Edward Power second son married Mary Travan on 6 Jan 1875 at the
Pro Cathedral, Kensington.
6 Francis John Power born circa 1824. He was the manager of the National Bank in
Mountmellick and married Mary Josephine Dunne on 9 Jun 1853. Mary was the second
daughter of Timothy Dunne of Mountmellick. After 12 years of service, he left
Mountmellick for Cork in 1864 and transferred to Dublin in 1868. The family lived at
Avonmore from 1872 to 1874 and Francis was appointed a JP in 1873. He died at 55
Pembroke Road on 27 Mar 1874 and was buried at the O’Connell Circle in Glasnevin. A
likeness of Francis was for sale by Cranfields after his death. Mary died at 50 Merrion
Square on 21 Sep 1887.
1 Arnold John Le Poer Power eldest son born circa 1856 in Queen’s County
graduated TCD was admitted solicitor in 1879 having served his apprenticeship at
William Roche and sons, Stephen’s Green. He married Ella Gertrude Drake at
St Mary’s R C Church at Cahir, Co Tipperary on 30 Apr 1896. Arnold was resident
at Fairy Hill, Clonmel and Ella was the fourth daughter of Major E H Drake of
Northumberland Fusiliers and of 4 Morley Square in Clifton, England. Arnold was
sheriff for Co Tipperary and involved in a number of evictions and was solicitor to
the North Tipperary County Council. He died 31 May 1917 at Abbeyville and left
7K in personal estate. Ella moved to Queensgate in London after Arnold’s death.
1 Arnold Anthony Robert Drake (Anthony) le Poer Power born 1 April 1897 at
Fitzwilliam Street. He married Stella Eykyn in 1934 in London. Stella was the
daughter of B P Eykyn.
2 Ellaline Margery Mary (Laline) le Poer Power born 8 Sep 1898 at Abbeyville,
Clonmel. She married Cornwall Barrington Simeon at the Oratory, Brompton
in July 1928. Cornwall was the only son of Percival Barrington Simeon of
White Cliffs, Arundel Road, Brighton.
3 Patience Zenobia Mary le Poer Power born 8 Nov 1901 at Abbeyville, Clonmel.
She married Brevet Major Robert E G Philips, Royal Irish Regiment of Gaile
House, Cashel.
2 Frank (Ghazi) le Poer Power second son born circa 1857 was educated at Clongowes
Wood College and in Austria. He was a talented linguist and painter and it was said
that he ‘could fence like a Frenchman, ride like an Irishman, box like an Englishman
and dance a waltz like an Austrian hussar’. He was the acting Consul in Khartoun and
war correspondent of the Times Newspaper. He died at Khartoun in the Soundan
war on 18 Sep 1884 aged 27, his remains were not found. A brass tablet was erected
in St Paul's Cathedral, London, commemorating the seven war correspondents who
died on service in the Sudan campaign, included Frank. His mother arranged a
memorial to him at St Andrews, Westland Row.
3 Mary Elizabeth Power eldest daughter born circa 1868 married Robert Francis
Murphy on 18 Nov 1879 at St Andrew’s Church, Westland Row. Robert was of
Woodford, Co Tipperary and 10 Mount Street.
4 Angela Gertrude Power second daughter married Terence O’Reilly 10 Nov 1885 at
Merrion square (registered at St Andrews Church, Westland Row). Terence was the
eldest son of Terence O’Reilly of 5 North Great George’s Street.
5 Lilian Mary Power born circa 1864 died 19 May 1876 at Belvidere Place, Mountjoy
Square.
6 Everard Marcus le Poer Power, second surviving son graduated the RCSI and
travelled to Egypt in 1892. He married Margaret Neill at St Stephen’s Church,
Gloucester Road Kensington on 19 Nov 1896. Margaret was the daughter of
Henry J Neill of Rockport, Craigavad, Co Down.

7 Kathleen Mary Power born 11 May 1868 at 34 College Green. Kathleen fourth

8 Mabel Alice le Poer Power youngest daughter born 10 Dec 1869 at 34
College Green married William Jackson, eldest surviving son of William Jackson
of Fleatham House, Cumberland, JP on 7 Dec 1897 at St James’ R C Church,
Spanish Point.
7 Bridget Power third daughter died at Lismore Convent on the day appointed for her
reception in July 1847.
8 Margaret Power married Thomas Phelan, a grocer of High Street at the house of Sylvester
Phelan (brother in law) Waterford on 2 Feb 1845. Thomas died on 18 Jan 1862 and was
buried at Knockboy graveyard.
