Hugh Pollen of Ringsend was Dock Master at the Grand Canal Company’s Docks from 1811.
He died on 28 Feb 1837. Elizabeth died 4 Jun 1864 aged 76 at Charlemont Terrace, Kingstown.

2 Thomas Pollen baptised at St Mary’s, Haddington Road on 9 Dec 1814. He took over
from his father as the Grand Canal’s Dock Master on his death in 1837. In 1860’s and
1870’s he was living at 19 Sackville Street took out a number of leases from the Earl of
Pembroke. These included the majority of the boat clubs, rowing clubs in Ringsend.
He built houses in Thorncastle Court, Thorncastle Street and Bottlehouse Yard. In
1878 he employed the Royal Engineers to fell a bottle factory chimney stack on his land
in Ringsend. The chimney was over 100 feet in circumference and seventy-five feet tall.
With the aid of guncotton, the Royal Engineers imploded the stack in on itself. He was a
town commission of Pembroke and lived at Rockville, Dundrum from 1878 to 1882. He
died a bachelor at Rockville, Dundrum on 15 Jul 1882. He left nearly 6k in personal
estate. Probate to his brother John.

5 John Pollen baptised at St Mary’s Haddington Road on 21 Jun 1819. He was living at
Sherrard Street and married Henrietta Stewart on 5 Jul 1843 at St George’s Church. They
were living in Dunleary in 1848 and at Eblana Terrace Kingstown in 1868. He was an
accountant and emigration agent advertising from 19 Eden Quay from 1868 to 1891.
Henrietta died 12 Mar 1878 at Lansdowne Road and John died on 6 Dec 1902 at 51
Lansdowne Road and left 3k in personal estate.
1 Arthur Daniel Crawford Pollen born 16 Nov 1844 in Kingstown was a barrister and
later a judge in India. He married Flora Victoria Thornborough Whish widow of
George Daniell Eales India 4 Mar 1874 at Colaba, India. Flora was the daughter of
Richard William Whish and Elizabeth (Burnes) Whish. Arthur of Carisbrook House,
Pembroke Road from 1899 to 1903. Arthur and Flora were living at a Kildare Street
Hotel in 1911. Arthur died on 2 Feb 1917 at the Maples Hotel aged 73. Flora died
29 Nov 1927 at Cheltenham, probate to her daughter Sybil.
1 Sybil Pollen born circa 1878 in India played tennis and ping pong. She
married George Stratford Burton 15 Jan 1903 at St Bartholomew’s Church.
George was a lieutenant in the Royal Artillery and the son of William George
Burton, civil servant.
6 Henry Pollen baptised at St Mary’s Haddington Road in March 1824 trading as an emigration
agent in 1879 from 19 Eden Quay.
7 William Pollen baptised at St Mary’s Haddington Road on 2 Sep 1828.
8 Anne Catherine (Annie) baptised at St Mary’s Haddington Road on 23 Jun 1831 married
George Maxton Blackwood on 3 Aug 1858 at St Mary’s Donnybrook. George was the only
son of George Rye Blackwood, a solicitor and died aged 32 on 8 Jun 1864 at Bessborough
Parade, Rathmines.
9 Hugh Pollen baptised at St Mary’s Haddington Road on 12 Oct 1834. He was a clerk in a
steam packet company living at Charlemont Terrace, Kingstown and married Georgina
Boyle on 4 Sep 1862 at Drumachose Parish Church. Georgina was the daughter of the
late Edward Buckly Boyle of Bridgehill House, Newtownlimavady.
