William Poland, a farmer rented 5 acres of land from William Fry known as the High Tree
Field in Stillorgan. William died in 1834 and his wife Sarah was his executrix. His land
was transferred to Henry Darley the younger of Stillorgan in 1834. William is remembered
on the Poland headstone in Stillorgan graveyard.

Jane Carey on 4 Oct 1841 at St Andrews, Westland Row. Mary died 7 Feb 1876 at
Rock Hill, Blackrock. Samuel a cabinet maker/upholsterer of Kingstown died
25 Jun 1895 at Northbrook Road.

5 Henry William baptised at Booterstown RC Church on 23 Aug 1819. He was a plumber
and married Margaret. They lived at 161 Great Britain Street. He died at 5 Upper
Drumcondra Road on 30 May 1871 and was buried at Stillorgan graveyard. Margaret
died 30 Jan 1883 at Mecklenburgh Street aged 70.
1 Caroline Louisa Poland eldest daughter born 22 Mar 1845 at 60 Jervis Street
baptised at St Mary’s C of I on 6 April 1845 married James Lindsey on
20 Oct 1869 at St Thomas’s C of I. James was a boiler maker and the son of
James Lindsey, a farmer.
2 Sarah Anneta Poland born at 13 Jervis Street on 6 Jul 1847 baptised at St Mary’s
C of I on 6 July 1847 married John Troy, a tailor of Little Britain Street at the
Pro Cathedral on 25 Nov 1868. John was the son of Michael Troy a tailor and
his wife Mary.
3 Henry William Poland born 24 Aug 1849 baptised at St Mary’s was the
informant of his mother’s death in 1883.
6 Sarah Maria Poland baptised 10 Dec 1821 at Booterstown RC Church married Loftus
Farrell on 24 Dec 1855 at St Andrew’s C of I.

8 William Joseph Poland baptised at Booterstown RC Church on 3 Sep 1824 married
Jane Atkinson on 21 Nov 1853 at Rathvilly Church of Ireland. Jane, a 17 year old school
teacher was resident at Lisnavagh and the daughter of Thomas Atkinson, a bootmaker.
William, a house painter had a wallpaper showroom at 169 Great Britain Street and
from 1870 at 43 Sackville Street opposite the Gresham Hotel. In 1871 William was the
painter decorator for St Patrick’s Cathedral and he was people’s churchwarden of St
Mary’s in 1873. Jane’s mother; Elizabeth Atkinson died in a house fire at Sackville
Street on 2 Dec 1879. William died at 43 Sackville Street on 27 Mar 1883 (57) and was
buried and Mount Jerome. Jane died at 25 Jan 1887 aged 50 at 84 Ranelagh Road.
1 Charles Thomas Poland born 7 Oct 1855 at Great Britain Street was baptised
at St Mary’s. He married Susan Charlotte Phillips on 27 Dec 1875 at St Stephen’s
Church. Susan was the daughter of Charles Frederick Phillips, an organist.
2 John James Poland born 23 Sep 1857 at 169 Great Britain Street baptised at St
Mary’s, a bachelor living in Ranelagh in 1901 and living in Sandycove in 1906.
John a music professor died a bachelor 28 Jul 1831 at 137 Rathgar Road. His
sister Sidney the informant.
3 Elizabeth Poland born 8 Jun 1859 at 169 Great Britain Street baptised at St
Mary’s a spinster living in Ranelagh in 1901.
4 William Crosbie Poland born 23 Jan 1862 at 169 Great Britain Street baptised
at St Mary’s. William died 26 Jul 1866 at 14 Newgrove Avenue, Sandymount
and was buried at Mount Jerome.

spinster living in with the Brock family in 1911 and working as a teacher of
music and English. Sara died at 24 Lower Beechwood Avenue on 24 Jan 1934.
Her niece Valerie the informant.
8 Sidney Janet Poland born 14 Dec 1869 at 169 Great Britain Street baptised at
St Mary’s married Edward Sandeman Brock, Staff Officer Irish Land
Commission on 15 Aug 1907 at St Peter’s Church, Dublin. Edward was the son
of Edward John Brock, and Sidney was resident at 37 Chelmsford Road, Ranelagh.
Edward died 19 Jan 1922 at 137 Ranelagh Road and was buried with his sister
and father at Mount Jerome. Sidney died 23 Feb 1933 at 137 Rathgar Road. Her
daughter Valerie was the informant and she was buried with her husband.
1 Valerie Edna Brock (twin) born 11 August 1908 at 137 Ranelagh Road
married Robert Seaton Lawrence on 16 Sep 1939 at Sandford Parish
Church.

29 Dec 1868.
