Stearne Phillips was born circa 1776 son of Michael Phillips and Mabel Tighe. Stearne Philips
of Athboy. Sterne Phillips of Drewstown Lodge, Athboy Co Meath married Margaret Tighe
on 13 Sep 1823 at St Peter’s Church, Dublin. Margaret was the second daughter of Stearne
Tighe of Leeson Street and Gartlandstown House in Co Meath. She had a fortune of 3K.
They had at least thirteen children. Stearne leased a property from Edward Nugent in
Stillorgan. He died 27 Sep 1848 aged 68 at Newtown Park and was buried at Stillorgan.
Margaret died 4 Feb 1889 at Stonehall.
1 Stearne Phillips eldest son born circa 1826 baptised 24 May 1826. He was living at
Dunstaffnage Lodge in Stillorgan and married Jane Maria Phillips on 20 Jun 1855 at
St Peter’s Church, Dublin. Jane was the fourth daughter of Thomas Phillips of
Edrigal, Co Cavan. They emigrated to Tasmania with their five children in 1873.
They lived at Glenview, Westbury.
2 Annie Phillips eldest daughter born circa 1827, baptised 8 Aug 1827 married Joshua
Phillips of Ashgreen, Co Meath at St Mary’s Church. Joshua died 25 Mar 1861 aged
41 at Tritonville Avenue, Sandymount and was buried in Stillorgan. Annie died
1 Apr 1903 aged 76 at Dartmouth Square and was buried in Stillorgan.
1 Frederick William Phillips only son born 17 Dec 1855 at Drinnadaly Lodge,
Trim, Co Meath married Frances Margaret Langley on 5 Oct 1886 at
Rathfarnham Parish Church. Frances was resident at Bellevue,
Goldenbridge and the daughter of Edward Prince Langley. They had four
children of whom three survived in 1911. Frederick was a brewer’s Clerk.
Frederick died 13 Jun 1936 aged 80 at Cartrefle, Terenure Park. Frances died
2 Dec 1951 aged 92 at Merrion Nursing Home late of 18 Terenure Park. Both
are buried at St Brigid’s graveyard, Stillorgan.
1 Frederick Langley Phillips born 14 Nov 1887 at Brighton Avenue was a
locomotive engineer in 1911.
2 Son Phillips born 20 Nov 1888 at Brighton Avenue.
3 Stearne Phillips born 30 Apr 1892 at Grosvenor Square, Rathmines.
4 Horace Langley Phillips born 13 Oct 1893 at Grosvenor Square was an
architect and surveyor. Horace of 43 Terenure Road East died
14 Mar 1969 aged 75 and was buried in Stillorgan.
3 Frederick Phillips born circa 1832 a widower living with the Taylor family in 1901 and
with his sister Mary Jane in 1911 at Rathsallagh, Co Wicklow. Frederick died at Old
Court, Dunlavin on 8 Sep 1913.
4 Margaret Arabella Phillips, second daughter emigrated with her brother Daniel to
New Zealand. She died 30 Sep 1868 at Invercargill, NZ.
5 Matilda Frances Stearn, third daughter born circa 1835 in Co Meath. She married
Jeremiah Gibson of Stone Hall, Co Westmeath on 20 Apr 1871 at St Thomas’ Church,
Dublin. Jeremiah was a farmer and grazier and they were living at Stonehall in 1911
and all seven of their children survived.
6 William Phillips born circa 1836 died a bachelor on 4 May 1876 at Stone Hall aged 37.
7 Joshua Phillips baptised 23 Jul 1837 emigrated to New Zealand.
8 Hannah Mabella Phillips, fourth daughter baptised 24 Sep 1842. She married Edward
Taylor of Bank, Rathfriland, Co Down on 19 Dec 1867 at St Peter’s Church, Dublin.
Edward was a bank manager. She was a widow living at Northumberland Road in
1911 and seven of their nine children had survived. She died 25 May 1927 at
Belgrave Square Monkstown.
1 Stearne Tighe Taylor born 4 Sep 1878 at Rathfriland retired as managing
director of National City Bank in 1957.
9 Robert Phillips sixth son baptised on 23 May 1839 emigrated to Australia and married
Isabella Jane Anderson on 28 Feb 1867 at Mavis Bush. Isabella was the eldest
daughter of John Anderson of Cullenswood, Tasmania.
10 Arthur Wellesley Phillips born circa 1841 died in England.
11 Thomas Michael Phillips born circa 1842 died 16 Oct 1862.
12 Daniel Tighe Phillips baptised in 1844 emigrated to New Zealand and died there in 1917.
13 Mary Jane Phillips baptised 6 Nov 1846 living with her brother Frederick at Rathsallagh,
Co Wicklow in 1911.
