Thomas Phillips, a Wool merchant married Margaret Lenox of Walton on the Hill by licence at St
Philips, Liverpool on 29 Jul 1828, and it is thought that the family moved to Ireland after the death
of Thomas and the marriage of their eldest daughter to Thomas Figgis.
1 Margaret Bathsheba Phillips, eldest daughter born circa 1836 in England married Thomas
Gilbart Figgis at West Kirby in July 1855. They lived at Sydenham House. Thomas died on
28 Dec 1876 and Margaret moved with the children and her sisters Anna and Jessie to
Greystones. Margaret died at Killinacarrick Road, Delgany 30 Mar 1908 aged 72 and was
buried at Mount Jerome with her husband.
1 Arthur Wellesley Lennox Figgis, eldest son born c21 Jun 1856 married Adelina
Wilson, widow of Samuel Morton Hewitt at the Church of the Holy Trinity,
Rathmines on 23 Jun 1885. They lived in Greystones and had one daughter. Arthur
died 27 Mar 1920.
1 Gladys Enid Figgis born circa 1891
2 Thomas Phillips Figgis (TP), second son born 1858 became an architect. He designed
many railway stations in London and also designed the Parochial Hall on Navara Road,
Bray. He married Caroline Mary Patton and had two sons, one of whom was Captain
Lenox Patton Figgis who was killed WWI. Thomas died on 2 May 1948 aged 90.
3 Emily Sarah Figgis born 14 Apr 1864 at Sydenham House.
4 Isabel Frances Figgis born 29 Mar 1866 at Sydenham House married Harold Basden of
Hampton Heath, London on 20 Dec 1892 at Holy Trinity Church, Rathmines.
5 Frank Fernsley, third son, died 13 Jan 1942 at Belfast.
6 Lucy Ethel Figgis born 8 Oakland Villas, Highfield Road, Rathmines 7 Oct 1870.
7 Theodore Gilbart Figgis born circa 1877, youngest son born posthumously, moved to
Belfast and married Grace Edith Paterson, third daughter of William R Paterson of Belfast
at Mary Magdalen Church, Belfast on 8 Jun 1909.
2 Lucy Martha Phillips, third daughter of 8 Oakland Villas, Highfield Road Rathgar was the
administrator of her mothers’ Will. She married Samuel Prankerd Hodgson, a surgeon from
Southfield, Nottingham and the son of Samuel Hodgeson, surgeon on 3 May 1876 at
Rathfarnham Church.
3 Emily Sara Phillips, fifth daughter born circa 1844 died at Sydenham House 25 Oct 1866.
4 Jessie Lenox Phillips, youngest daughter born circa 1845 in England, died a spinster at
Greystones on 20 Nov 1911.
5 Anna Elizabeth Phillips born circa 1854 in England died 25 Jun 1899 at 110 Frankfurt Square and
was buried at Mount Jerome aged 45.
