O’Reilly Family of Riversdale or Granada, Stillorgan
Gerald O’Reilly was born in Carlow the son of John O’Reilly a grocery and liquor dealer. He was
a member of the City Council for 30 years and was elected High Sheriff in 1906 and Lord Mayor
of Dublin in 1908. One of the original founders of the Dublin Family Grocers and Purveyors
Association. A Governor of the Royal Academy of Music, the Dental Hospital and the South
Dublin Board of Guardians.
Gerald O’Reilly a publican came to Dublin and married Teresa Dunne daughter of John Dunne
of Townsend Street in 1870. Prior to their marriage Gerald and Teresa were both stabbed with
a butchers skewer by Francis O’Reilly a tailor of Shaw Street who had a grievance against them.
In 1902 a tenement house owned by Gerald at 186 Townsend Street which had been condemned
as being unsafe, collapsed killing Anne Lawler the occupant. The family had moved to Riversdale
in Stillorgan in 1900.

Teresa Stapleton elder daughter of late Andrew Stapleton and niece of Gerald O’Reilly died on
01.03.1886 aged 21 years at 8 Townsend Street.
