Gerald O’Reilly born circa 1842 in Carlow the son of John O’Reilly, a grocery and liquor dealer.
He was a publican and moved to Dublin. He married Teresa Dunne daughter of John Dunne
of Townsend Street on 07.06.1870 at St Andrew's Church. Prior to their marriage Gerald and
Teresa were both stabbed with a butchers skewer by Francis O’Reilly a tailor of Shaw Street
who had a grievance against them. He was a member of the City Council for 30 years and was
elected High Sheriff in 1906 and Lord Mayor of Dublin in 1908. One of the original founders of
the Dublin Family Grocers and Purveyors Association. He was a governor of the Royal Academy
of Music, the Dental Hospital and the South Dublin Board of Guardians. The family had moved
to Riversdale in Stillorgan in 1900. In 1902 a tenement house owned by Gerald at 186 Townsend
Street which had been condemned as being unsafe, collapsed killing Anne Lawler the occupant.
Gerald died at Riversdale on 19.03.1915 and is buried at Glasnevin. Theresa died 14.08.1920
at 7 Hume Street and was buried at Glasnevin.

married Francis Clinch at St Mary's Church Booterstown on 24 Jul 1912. Francis
was a solicitor and the son of Christopher Clinch.
4 Josephine O’Reilly 2nd daughter born 19.03.1877 at 8 Townsend Street married
Terence E Brady of Hawthorn House, Oakhill Park, Liverpool on 25.11.1908 at St
Andrew’s, Westland Row.
5 Teresa Wilhelmina O’Reilly born 12.12.1879 at 8 Townsend Street living at Hume
Street in 1920.
6 Agnes O’Reilly born circa 1883.
7 John G O’Reilly born circa 1883 was ordained a priest in Maynooth in 1901. He was
administrator of the Pro Cathedral and died circa 1927. He was buried at Glasnevin.
8 Christine O’Reilly born circa 1893.
Teresa Stapleton elder daughter of late Andrew Stapleton and niece of Gerald O’Reilly died on
01.03.1886 aged 21 years at 8 Townsend Street.
