Timothy O’Brien born circa 1787 son of Timothy O'Brien and Miss Madden (daughter of Timothy
Madden of Galway). He was a wine merchant and married Catherine Murphy on 24.07.1821 at
Balbriggan. Catherine was the daughter of Edward Murphy. In the 1830s he had premises at 92
Baggot street. Catherine died 29.07.1836 at Rockford House, Blackrock and is buried at
Glasnevin. Timothy was MP for Cashel and elected Lord Mayor of Dublin in 1844 and 1849. He
was created a Baronet in 1849 during Queen Victoria’s visit to Ireland. He moved to Mount
Anville Park after leaving the Mansion House. Sir Timothy died at his residence on Merrion
Square and is buried at Glasnevin.
1 Patrick O’Brien eldest son born circa 1823 married Ida Sophia Parlby daughter of the late
Commander James Edward Parlby RN and widow of Lieut General James Perry on
29.08.1866. Patrick died without issue on 25.04.1895 in Brighton and is buried at Kensal
Green Cemetery. The title passed to his nephew Timothy Carew O’Brien of Lohort Castle.
Dame Ida died on 12.05.1910 late of Bryanston Square, Marylebone.
2 Namie O’Brien eldest daughter born circa 1827 died of scarlatina on 13.02.1843 aged 16
years at the Convent of the Sacre Coeur in Paris and is buried at Glasnevin.
3 Catherine Emilie O’Brien born circa 1828 married Col Alexander George Murphy of
Killarney a solicitor on 26.09.1860 at St Andrew’s Church, Westland Row, Dublin.
Alexander died on 30.09.1889 aged 63 at Glenville, Dundrum and Kate died on 05.01.1894
aged 65 years of 47 Oxford Road, Kilburn and they are buried at Dundrum.
4 Timothy Leo O’Brien 2nd son born circa 1830 married Mary Carew O’Dwyer circa 13.09.1860
at the Catholic Church of Bohernabreena. Mary was the only daughter of Andrew Carew
O’Dwyer of Orlagh, Dublin. Timothy left Dublin circa 1863 and went to South America as a
sheep farmer. Timothy died on 25.04.1869 in St Antonio leaving a widow and 4 children.
1 Timothy Carew (Tay Cay) O’Brien baptised 16.11.1861 of Lohort Castle, Cork was
educated at Downside and Oxford. He married Gundrede Annette Teresa de Trafford
on 26.09.1885 at All Saints Church, Barton-upon-Irwell. Gundrede was the daughter
of Sir Humphrey de Trafford, 2nd baronet and they had 10 children. He became 3rd
baronet in the death of his uncle in 1895. He was a well-known cricketer and played
for Ireland in 1902 and scored 167 run against Oxford University. They were at
Castlelohort in 1901 and 1911 for the census but spent months abroad each year.
Castle Lohort was burned down in 1921 and they moved to Rockford, Blackrock from
1922 to 1924. Sir Timothy died in 9 Dec 1948 at Ramsay, Isle of Man.
1 Mariguite W A O’Brien born circa 1891 in England educated at St Mary's Priory,
Rugby. She married James T Price in 1915 at Kensington.
2 Timothy John Alousius O’Brien older son born circa 1893 in England educated at
St Anthony;s in Eastbourne. He died in Flanders during the First World War on
07.08.1916.
3 Ursula O’Brien born circa 1894 in Cork.
4 Sicele Julia Mary O'Brien born 1 Apr 1887 in England educated at St Mary's Priory,
Rugby. She served with the Red Cross during WW1. She was a well known pioneer
pilot being the second woman in Britain or Ireland to get a commercial pilots
licence and the first woman in Britain or Ireland to run an air taxi service. She lost
a leg in an air accident in 1928. She was killed on 18 Jun 1931 when her plane
crashed on take-off at Hatfield. Her friend and co-owner of the plane Enid Gordon
-Gallien was also killed.
5 Gundrede O’Brien born 1889 in Paddington served with the French Red Cross as
a nurse during WW1.
6 Eileen Moira O’Brien born circa 1894 in Cork married Captain Edward Thomas
Boylan, MC, DSO at St John the Baptist Church, Blackrock on 03.01.1923. Edward
was with the Royal Horse Artillery and the son of Thomas Boylan of Hilltown, Co
Meath. The reception was held at Rockford.

10 Robert Rollo Gillespie O’Brien born 1901 In Cork succeed to the title on the death

2 John George O’Brien born circa 1866 played cricket for Ireland and died in 1920.
5 Captain John O’Brien youngest son born circa 1832 of the 5th Northumberland Fusiliers
died 23.01.1869 aged 36 years at Gravesend, Kent and is buried at Glasnevin.
6 Ellen O’Brien youngest daughter born circa 11.03.1833 married John Valentine Cassidy
of Killyon, Parsonstown a barrister and son of Robert Cassidy on 19.01.1864 at St
Andrew’s, Westland Row. John died on 24.08.1898 aged 71 years at 53 Upper Mount
Street, Dublin. Ellen died 20.12.1899 aged 65 years at the Shelbourne Hotel, Dublin.
