Edmund O’Beirne, solicitor with offices 11 North Earl Street from 1820 to 1824 and was at 10 Lower
Gardiner Street from 1827 until 1841. He married Mary Lyster daughter of James Lyster of Lysterfield,
Athleague, Roscommon at Lacken House, Co Roscommon in August 1815. He was a member of
O’Connell’s Reform Registry. Mary died at Westbury on 12 Sep 1836. Edmund went forward as a
candidate for Athlone but was not elected. He was advised to travel to Harrogate for a few months for
his health and died on his journey home at Liverpool on 30 Oct 1842 from hydrothorax. He left Bank
of Ireland stock which his son James claimed in 1860 and who also applied for the dividends on same
which had not been paid out since 1841.
1 James Lyster O’Beirne eldest son baptised 11 Jul 1816 at the Pro Cathedral. He graduated Trinity
and was called to the bar. He was a member of O’Connell’s Reform Registry and editor of the
Court Journal. He married Mary Breen, eldest daughter of Patrick Breen of Castlebridge, Co
Wexford on 17 May 1842 at Castlebridge. Mary died 16 Sep 1850 at Wilton Street, Grosvenor
Place. He had offices at 52 Dame Street in 1852 and was living at 84 King William Street in
London in 1863. He was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Cashel at the 1865
general election and held the seat until 1869, when his victory at the 1868 general election was
declared void on account of bribery an intimidation. The seat was then disenfranchised and
absorbed into Tipperary and James moved back to Sackville Street, London. He secondly married
Jane Henrietta Bewicke nee Torrens MacCullagh at Marylebone in 1881. He was solicitor and
executor to Nawab Nazim Mansur Ali Khan which was quite an onerous task as the Nawab Nazim
had numerous wives and 101 children. He died 3 Sep 1895 late of 23 Bryanston Square and The
Reform Club and left £36 in personal estate.
2 Edmund John O’Beirne was baptised at the Pro Cathedral on 8 Jun 1819. He was the manager of the
National Bank of Ireland in Carrickmacross from 1848 before promotion to Kells branch in 1857. He
married Clare Elizabeth Foley. They lived at Headfort place Kells. He was tied up and held captive
for 17 hours in 1867 over a land dispute. He was Vice President of Kells Cricket Club.

eldest daughter William Archdale O’Doherty of Coram, Long Island, New York at Bangor,
North Wales on 13 Jul 1872.
3 Marion Clare O’Beirne, eldest daughter born 14 Aug 1853 at Carrickmacross married Henry
MacDermott, Vernon Priory Liverpool at St Anne’s Dublin on 9 Feb 1874.
4 Daughter O’Beirne born 8 Aug 1860 at Laytown.
5 Clare Kate Mary O’Beirne born 13 Sep at Headfort Place Kells.
3 Hugh O’Beirne baptised at the Pro Cathedral on 14 Oct 1822.
4 John O’Beirne baptised at the Pro Cathedral on 7 July 1823.
