Thomas Neville Bagot 3rd son of John Lloyd Bagot of Drumatemple and Kilcroan and
Catherine Cuffe, of Ballymoe, Co Galway married Ellen Fallon. Ellen was the daughter of
John Fallon and Mary Burke. Thomas was a JP for Galway and claimed descendancy from
Sir Robert Bagod of Bagodrath Castle, Dublin and succeeded to his mother’s estate of
Ballymoe. Ellen died suddenly on 17 Mar 1848 at Fitzwilliam. Thomas was in declining
health and moved to Boulogne to the home of his daughter Catherine Meagher in 1862.
He died there on 8 Feb 1863.
1 Letitia Mary Bagot born circa 1812 died unmarried on 8 Jan 1898 at Crosthwaite
Park, Kingstown.
2 John Lloyd Bagot eldest son born circa 1814 married Anna Georgina Kirwan of
Ballyturin. He was a JP of The Hermitage, Ballymoe and in 1876 he owned 6,900
acres in county Galway and 104 acres in county Roscommon. Anna Georgina died
15 May 1888. John died a widower on 15 Jan 1890 at Aughrane Castle,
Mountbellew, Galway.
1 Edward Thomas Lloyd Bagot born circa 1848 married his cousin Ellen
Meagher on 26 Jun 1876 and died at Crosthwaite Terrance on 10 Oct 1890
2 Annie Baggot born circa 1860 a spinster living with her brother Charles in 1901.
3 Ellie Baggot born circa 1861 a spinster living with her brother Charles in 1901.
4 Charles Henry Bagot born circa 1862 married Georgina Louisa Osburne on
10 Nov 1891 at St Michael’s Church, Blackrock, Cork. Georgina was the
daughter of John Osburne of Lindville, Cork.
5 John C Bagot of Ballyturin married Anna Catherine Fleming on 20 Oct 1891.
Anna was the only daughter of Lieut Col Fleming of Mayfield Ashburne,
Derbyshire.
3 Bernard William Bagot second son born 28 Dec 1816 in Galway, graduated Trinity
and was called to the Irish Bar in 1843. He married Euphemia Young Hinds at
Rathfarnham parish church on 7 Dec 1850. Bernard was resident at 9 Upper
Gardiner Street and Euphemia was the only surviving daughter of Richard John
Hindes of Mount Prospect, Rathgar. Euphemia died at Blackrock from
consumption on 12 Jul 1855.

Bernard of Mount Prospect secondly married Josephine Isabella Homes at St
Peter’s Church Dublin on 18 Mar 1862. Josephine was the daughter of Joseph
Arthur Holmes, of Abbey Ville, Roscommon. Bernard owned 686 acres in Co
Roscommon in 1876. He was a JP living at Carranure, Co Roscommon and died
22 Jan 1899 at Carranure. Josephine moved to Edinburgh where she died on
16 Oct 1911.
4 Charles Augustus Bagot born circa 1820 Galway graduated Trinity. He married
Frances Louisa Kerr on 28 Sep 1858 at St Peter’s Church, Dublin. Fanny was the
only daughter of Dr Alexander Spear Kerr of Rutland Square. Charles died
18 Apr 1877 at Harrington Street late of Hampstead, Glasnevin. He left 3K in
personal estate and no issue found. His widow secondly married widower Rev
Vernon Russell Drapes on 26 Jul 1882 at Trinity Church, Rathmines.
5 Christopher Neville Bagot fourth and youngest son born circa 1821 Galway
educated at Trinity and joined the military. He travelled to Australia in 1844 and
returned a wealthy man. It is suspected that he was a prospector and found
gold as he was known as ‘The Nugget’. In the 1850’s he was a major live stock
owner with about 7k acres in Southern Australia. He bought the Castle Valley
and Balgar estates including Castle Kelly in 1863. The estate of 1100 acres was
purchased for 105K and he revived the old name of Aghrane. Christopher
suffered from locomotor ataxia which he claimed was from a fall from a horse
in 1864 but loss of coordination of movement can also be the result of syphilitic
infection of the spinal cord. He married Alice Emily Harriett Verner on 8 Aug 1875
at the Alexandra Hotel in London. Alice was the daughter of the late Sir William
Verner, MP, JP & DL and Mary Packenham. She was also sister to Sir William
Verner, MP of Co Armagh. When they married, Alice had a fortune of 10K but
there was no marriage settlement. The couple lived at Oakland Park near London
before moving to Tunbridge Wells. They then moved to the Anglesea Hotel in
Kingstown. While Alice was on a visit to Chester with her sister, Christopher’s
brothers took him to live in Merville. In 1876 she summoned her brother in law
John Bagot for the purpose of having him ‘bound over to keep the peace having
used threats to her’. She had moved into Merville but claimed she was not
allowed to see her husband. Christopher died 23 May 1877 at Aughrane Castle,
Mountbellew, Galway. He left 25K in personal estate in Dublin, 18K in Galway
and he also had 45K of Melbourne & Hobson Bay Railway shares. After his
death Alice contested the Will as it disinherited their son William. She claimed
that they were married in a registry office on 3 Aug 1874 prior to their second
marriage by a clergyman on the 8 Aug 1875. It was suggested that the child may
have been the offspring of William P Boulder a former captain in the Donegal
militia. After a lengthy and much publicised court case a compromise was
reached by which, his son was declared legitimate and financial provision was
made for him and for the widow, while the Aughrane estate passed to his eldest
brother John.

Alice married Major Reginald Wynne-Roberts on 30 Oct 1878 and she had a
further four children. The couple separated in 1882 and Alice filed for, and was
granted a divorce in 1895. Alice died on 9 Jul 1908 aged 55 at Hove.
6 Catherine (Kate) Bagot second daughter born circa 1823 married Francis Meagher
on 4 Jan 1849 at St Thomas’ Dublin. Francis was a barrister, resident at Gardiner
Street and the son of Francis and Elizabeth Meagher. Francis died on
13 Dec 1853 from typhus fever and Catherine died at Genoa, Italy on 16 Mar 1908.
1 Francis Meagher baptised at the Pro Cathedral 23 Jan 1850 died at
Gardiner Street in April 1850.
2 Ellen N Meagher born August 1851 at Sorento Cottage, Dalkey married
her cousin Edward Thomas Lloyd Bagot on 26 Jun 1876 at St Peter’s
Church, Dublin.
3 John Meagher born at Gardiner Street baptised at the Pro Cathedral on
3 Sep 1852.
4 Francis Meagher baptised at the Pro Cathedral on 24 Sep 1853.
7 Daughter Bagot devoted to religious life in 1878.
8 Ellen Mary Bagot third and youngest daughter died 26 Jul 1866 at Chateau
Huplandre, near Boulogne-sur-mer.
