Patrick Murphy a gardener of Newtown son of Peter Murphy a farmer married Catherine Delaney
daughter of William Delaney a Miller in 1875. They were living at Leopardstown Lodge in 1894.
Patrick was a gardener living at the gardener’s cottage at Ferney from 1895 to 1904 and in 1905
he was working at Abilene and the family lived at the gate lodge. Patrick died at Abilene Lodge on
1 Mar 1912 and is buried at Deansgrange. Catherine died at 3 Springhill Cottages, Stradbrook and
is buried at Deansgrange.
1 Pierce Murphy born 01.05.1876 at Newtown, Kilkenny living with his family at Ferney, Galloping
Green in 1901. Pierce a railway porter married Elizabeth Murphy daughter of Thomas Murphy
of Milltown, Ferns on 24.02.1905 at the Roman Catholic Chapel, Ferns, Wexford. By 1911
Pierce was a station master and the family were living at 1 Corporation, Murragh, Wicklow.

2 William Murphy born 06.01.1878 at Palatine, Carlow. He lived with his parents at both Abilene
and Ferney working as a rail signal man and later a tram conductor. By 1894 he was collecting
and swapping poems, short stories and poems by Charles Joseph Kickham. In 1903 he wrote
a memoir on him and it was published by James Duffy and Co Ltd of 15 Wellington Quay, Dublin.
Over the years he won prizes for his short stories published in the newspapers. William a tram
conductor of Springfield Cottages died unmarried on 06.04.1936 aged 59 years at Loughlinstown
Hospital and is buried with his mother at Deansgrange.
3 Patrick Murphy born 26.10.1886 at Grace Dieu, Waterford. Patrick a clerk died unmarried of
TB on 19.01.1911 aged 26 at Abilene Lodge and is buried with his father at Deansgrange.
