Henry Mitchell married Elizabeth Stephenson on 11 Jun 1822. Elizabeth was the daughter
of William Stephenson. Henry inherited the Drumreaske estate in 1843 when his brother
Alexander died. He was land agent to Charles P Leslie, MP and also to the Ruxton family
of Cavan. Henry died 18 Oct 1854 in Dublin and Elizabeth died 14 Sep 1880 at Raconnell
House, Monaghan.
1 Henry James Mitchell eldest son born 12 Aug 1823 in Belfast. He was the
grandson of Henry Mitchell and Mary Johnstone. He graduated BA in law from
Trinity College. He married Mary Ashmore on 31 Aug 1852 at St Ann’s Church,
Belfast. Mary was the daughter of the late Richard Ashmore of Belfast. They had
twelve children of whom eleven survived in 1911. Henry was a member of the NE
Agricultural Association and a JP in 1857. Henry sold Drumreaske to William Francis
de V Kane in 1863 and they moved to Greenwood Park, St Doulough’s in Kinsealy
in 1864. Greenwood was reputedly where Handel stayed when in sojourned in
Ireland in the 1740s. By 1874 they had moved to Kilmacud Manor, Stillorgan and
renamed it Elmstead. He was the owner of 58 acres in Monaghan in 1876.
Elmstead was put up for sale in 1880. Henry died 24 Nov 1889 at Riversdale,
Chapelizod, Co Dublin. He left personal estate of £356, his executor was Henry
Mitchell of the same address. After his death Mary moved to Longford Terrace and
was at Ailesbury Road by 1911. Mary died at 18 Ailesbury Road on 25 Oct 1915. She
left 3K in personal estate and her executor was Richard A Mitchell.
1 Henry Mitchell eldest son born 6 Feb 1854 at Cornacassa House, Co
Monaghan. He married Harriette Ellen Glasgow. Harriette was the daughter
of John George Glasgow. They were living in Coleraine in 1911 with their six
children. Henry died 11 Apr 1922 at Belfast.
1 Henry Blaney Owen Mitchell born 6 Aug 1895 in Newry.
2 Clara Georgina Mitchell born 25 Jul 1855 at Cornacassa House, Co Monaghan.
She died a spinster on 21 Aug 1905 at 24 Longford Terrace, Monkstown.
3 Richard Ashmore Mitchell second son born 9 Aug 1856 married Ellin Runcorn
MacLaurin Monteath on 27 Dec 1888 at Glencairn House, Crieff, Perthshire.
Ellin was the daughter of Alexander MacLaurin Monteath of the Broich and
Duchally, Perthshire, late Director General of the Post Office, British East
India. He was a dairy keeper and was living in Scotland in 1901 with his wife
and two children. He died 18 Jun 1925.
4 Frances Mary Mitchell born 18 Nov 1859 at Drumenaske, Monaghan
died a spinster at Clarinda Park on 16 Jun 1934.
5 Constance Mary Mitchell born 9 Nov 1864 at Greenwood, Kinsealy.
She married The Rev Maurice Henry Fitzgerald Collis at St Mary’s,
Warrenpoint on 1 Jul 1889. Constance was livinh with her husband
and their seven children. Constance died at The Vicarage, Antrim on
28 Mar 1902.
6 John Ashmore Mitchell born 1866 at Greenwood, Kinsealy died
17 Nov 1946 at Devon.
7 Clement Alexander Mitchell born 3 May 1867 at Greenwood, Kinsealy.
He married Sarah Annie Young in 1904. He was a Captain in the King’s
Liverpool Regiment was killed in action on 14 Oct 1916 late of Ramsay,
Isle of Man and was buried at Euston Road Cemetery, Colincamps,
France. He left 2K in personal estate.
8 Edmund Mitchell born 26 Sep 1868 at Greenwood, Kinsealy died an infant.
9 Kathleen Charlotte Mitchell born 16 Apr 1870 at Greenwood, Kinsealy. She
died a spinster on 2 Apr 1948 late of Royal Terrace Dun Laoghaire. Her
executor was Henry Blaney Owen Mitchell.
10 Sydney Owen Mitchell born 26 Sep 1874 at Stillorgan was a Land
Commission clerk in 1911. He died a bachelor in 1944 at the Stewart
Institution late of Dun Laoghaire.
11 Edith Mary Mitchell born 1876 at Elmstead, Kilmacud died a spinster at Ivanhoe,
Lansdowne Road on 12 Jan 1920.
2 William Stephenson Mitchell born circa 1826 died a bachelor on 25 Apr 1881 at Bessmount.
3 Dorothea Mitchell eldest daughter married Ryne Lawder and died a widow 9 Jan 1857.
3 John Johnston Mitchell youngest son born circa 1842 died at Bushfield Avenue, Dublin
on 24 Nov 1868.
