William Rice Meredith born circa 1813 in Dublin son of John Meredith and Mary Magdalen
Redmond. He was called to the bar in 1840 and had offices at 10 Rutland Square in 1842.
He married Isabella Agnes Standish on 7 Jan 1847 at St Multose Church, Kinsale. Isabella
was the daughter of Edward Standish of Kinsale. By 1853 they were living at 39 Summer
Hill and by 1885 they had moved to 42 Kenilworth Square. William died 20 Oct 1888 at
Mount Salem; his son Frederick the informant. Isabella died 29 Jan 1900 at Wilton Terrace,
both are buried at Mount Jerome.
1 William Henry Meredith born 3 Oct 1849 at 10 Upper Rutland Street baptised at St
Georges. He was a solicitor with offices at Temple Street. He married widow
Elizabeth Mary Auzani on 23 Nov 1881 at St Ignatius, Gardiner Street. Elizabeth
was the daughter of Charles P Connolly, a publisher and she was resident at Buston
in Derbyshire. They were living in Morhampton Road, Donnybrook in 1911 and all
three of their children had survived. William died 24 Jul 1914 at Baggot Street.
2 Catherine Carew Meredith eldest daughter born 23 Sep 1850 at Upper Rutland
Street. She married James Creed Meredith on 29 Jan 1870 at St Peter’s Church. John
was a widower and a barrister of living at Mount Street and the son of Major Richard
Martin Meredith. Catherine died in childbirth on 23 Nov 1870.

3 John Edward Meredith second son born 26 Mar 1852 baptised at St Georges. He was
educated at Bective College and graduated Trinity. He was an MD of Maidstone in
Kent and married Mary D’Esterre on 2 Mar 1878 at Holy Trinity Church, Twickenham.
Mary was the younger daughter of Robert John D’Esterre of Oxford House, Teddington.
They had three children. John died 11 Aug 1912 at St Leonard’s on Sea, late of
Maidstone, Kent.
4 Edward Bishopp Meredith born November 1853 at Summerhill died 19 Aug 1878 was
a surgeon with the HIM Bengal Medical Service. He died 19 Aug 1878 at Viper Island,
Port Blair, the Andamans from typhoid fever.
5 Richard Edmund Meredith born 18 Nov 1855 at Summerhill. He was educated at
Galway College, Queen's University of Ireland and Trinity College. He entered Middle
Temple in 1876 and was called to the Irish bar in 1879. He married Annie Pollock on
14 Sep 1880 at St Peter’s Church Dublin. He was a barrister living at Temple Street
and Annie was the daughter of John Pollock, a solicitor of Grosvenor Square. He was
appointed a Judge of the High Court of Justice in Ireland and a member of the Privy
Council of Ireland in 1896. In 1898, he was appointed Judicial Commissioner of the
Irish Land Commission and in 1906 he was appointed Master of the Rolls. They were
living at Fitzwilliam Square in 1911 and all of their five children had survived. He
retired in 1912 and died 28 Jan 1916 late of House, Camberley. Annie died at
Camberley on 9 Dec 1939, probate to her nephew Raymond.
1 Edmund Richard Meredith died 20 Aug 1917 while serving with The British Red
Cross in Italy and was buried at Gradisca.
6 Adelaide Georgina (Ada) Meredith born 7 Jul 1857 at Dublin. As eldest surviving daughter
she died unmarried on 12 Feb 1902 late of Rathmichael Lodge. She was buried with her
parents at Mount Jerome.
7 Isabella Agnes Meredith born 7 Sep 1858 at 39 Summer-hill. She married John Pollock
on 2 Sep 1880 at St George’s Parish Church. John was a surgeon and the son of John
Pollock, solicitor. John died 25 Sep 1888 aged 31.
1 Premature daughter Ada Meredith Pollock born 1 May 1881 at Swatow, China.
She was living with her mother and step father at Dundrum in 1911. She was
matron of the Cheltenham Children’s Hospital and married Brigadier General
Robert Percy Maxwell at St John’s Church, Blackheath, Greenwich on 8 Jan 1930.
She died 6 Nov 1943 at Baggot Street Hospital late of Palmerston Road.
2 Kathleen Purdon Pollock born 30 Jun 1883 at Swatow, China. She graduated the
Royal University of Ireland in 1905. She married Edward Clive Brooks of Milltown
on 10 Jun 1908 at Taney Church. Edward was the son of the late Edward Thomas
Lefroy.
3 John Pollock born circa 1885 at Swatow, China. He was a first officer in the Mercantile
Service and married Charlotte Jebb Kerr on 30 May 1928 at Taney Church. Charlotte
was the widow of Major Robert Goodman Kerr and the daughter of Francis Bourne
Linde.
4 Isabel Pollock born circa 1886 at Swatow, China. She married widower Thomas Crozier
of Avonmore, Stillorgan on 1 Sep 1916 at Taney Church.
Isabella secondly married the Rev William Monk Gibbon on 15 Feb 1894 at St Matthias Church,
Dublin. William was the incumbent of Taney from 1900 and died on 26 Mar 1935. He was
buried at St Nahi’s, Taney. Isabella died on 24 Jul 1945, at 50 Palmerston Road, Dublin.
5 Georgina Marjorie Gibbon born 18 Jan 1894 at 44 NCR. She married Rev William
Luxmoore Jameson on 30 Jan 1917 at Taney Church. William was the son of Robert
William Jameson of Campfield.
6 William Monk Gibbon born 15 Dec 1896 at St Paul’s Parsonage, NCR. He was educated
at St Columba's College, Dublin and Keble College, Oxford. He left college on the
outbreak of war and joined the Royal Army Service Corps and was sent to France. He
married Mabel Winifred Dingwall on 30 August 1928, in Isle of Wight, Hampshire.
Mabel was the daughter of Walter Molyneux Dingwall and Mabel Sophia Spender of
Bonchurch. He was a well known poet and author in Ireland.
7 Mary Elinor Gibbon born 2 Sep 1899 at St Paul’s Parsonage. She married James Creed
Meredith on 3 Jul 1924 at Taney Church. James was the son of the late Major Richard
Meredith.
8 Frederick Walsingham Meredith born 6 Mar 1860 died 18 Mar 1924.
9 Arthur Francis Carew Meredith youngest son born circa 1861 died 16 May 1938. He
was a barrister and married Jessie Twemlow on 8 Mar 1900 in the parish of St Paul’s
by special licence. Jessie was the daughter of Henry Twemlow, a civil engineer. They
were living at Mount Street in 1911 and all three of their children had survived. They
also refused to state their religion on that census. Arthur died on 16 May 1938 at St
Vincent’s Hospital and was buried at Mount Jerome. Jessie died aged 86 at a nursing
home on 11 Mar 1948 late of Belmont Villas, Donnybrook.
