William Meegan, son of Edward Meegan, a carpenter was born circa 1861 in Dublin was working as
a groom and living at Stillorgan in 1881. He married Eliza Byrne at St Laurence’s Church on
16 Jan 1881. Eliza was born in Dublin circa 1855, daughter of Patrick Byrne and was working as a
servant at the time of her marriage. William was living at Kilmacud and working as a labourer in 1901
and 1911 but Eliza was no longer in the family home. An annotation on the census implies that she
may have been in a mental institution and would be listed under initials and therefore difficult to
identify. In 1901 Margaret Burns is listed as a border in the house and in 1911 Margaret is listed as
Williams sister in law. Margaret is listed as Church of Ireland and it is probable that Eliza was too.
Margaret Byrne, a servant died 12 Jun 1917 at the Workhouse Loughlinstown, late of Stillorgan. She was
buried at Deansgrange and William made the funeral arrangements. William died at Louglinstown
Hospital, late of Stillorgan Cottages on 1 Jan 1924 and was buried at Deansgrange with his sister in law.
Eliza, wife of William died on 10 Feb 1929, at Grange Gorman and was buried at Deansgrange with her
sister and husband. The couple had no children.
