McKay Family of Moreen, Sandyford, Dundrum
William McKay was Assistant Clerk of the Council and Nephew of Jane Wardlaw 1791. In 1792 he had
offices on 43 Ship Street and was Deputy Secretary of the Court of Chancery. His town residence was
14 St Stephen’s Green and he owned land at Balally.

1 Daniel McKay eldest son born 02.12.1778 married Elvie Rowland daughter of Edward
Rowland of Cathen Lodge, Ruabon, Denbighshire on 05.04.1811 at Ruabon, Denbighshire,
Wales. Daniel died 05.12.1840 at Stephen's Green and Eliza died 07.05.1858 aged 72 years
at Stephens Green. They are buried in a vault at St Ann’s Church, Dawson Street.
1 William McKay born circa 1814 a Barrister educated at Eton College. William married
Frances Emma English daughter of William John English of Monksferry, Birkenhead
on 18.05.1841 at St Mary’s, Birkenhead, Cheshire. In 1881 Frances was living with
daughter Frances in Brighton.
1 Major William Rowland McKay HM Army born circa 1842. William married
Marie Ann Hayton daughter of John Hayton on 08.08.1866 at St John the Baptist
Church, Cheshire. William died on 16.01.1920 of St Columba’s Hospital, Swiss
Cottage, Hampstead.
2 Frances Anna McKay born circa 1843 living at Holles Street in 1901 Frances
died unmarried on 01.02.1905 at 67 Strand Road, Sandymount formerly of 16
Holles Street and 19 Lower Mount Street.
3 Rhoda Kathleen McKay younger daughter baptised 14.08.1844 at Cheltenham
married Lieutenant William Charles Forbes of the 22nd Gordon Highlanders
eldest son of William Nathaniel Forbes of Dunnottar and Netherley on
28.11.1867 at St Ann’s Church, Dublin. Miss Evangeline Pollock of Oatlands was
a bridesmaid at this wedding. William died suddenly on 14.05.1880 at Laroche,
Belgium.
2 Louisa Jane McKay eldest daughter born circa 1815 married George Annesley Pollock 2nd son
of Arthur Hill Cornwallis Pollock of Mountainstown, Meath on 12.11.1845 at St Ann’s Church,
Dublin. George died on 20.01.1867 aged 52 years at his residence Oatlands, Meath.
3 Manners McKay, JP and Barrister-at-Law married Alicia Georgina Bunbury daughter of Thomas
Bunbury of Lysbrian House, Tipperary and Spiddal House, Galway on 01.09.1845 at Ballingarry
Church, Tipperary and they lived at Moreen for 1842. Manners had been with the 3rd Dragoons
guards and ran a Steeple Chase at Moreen in 1842. Alice died on 22.11.1853 aged 27 years and
Manners died on 13.06.1854 aged 36 years. Monument erected in Ballinagarry Graveyard
erected by their children.
1 Mary Elizabeth Odette McKay born circa 1846 married James Francis Lenox MacFarlane
of Aldershot and Hunstown House on 18.08.1870 at Ballinagarry, Tipperary. Mary Eliza
died 03.12.1882 aged 34 years at Moreen.
1 Alice Maude Bunbury MacFarlane born 30.07.1871 at Sterling, Dunshaughlin
married Daniel O’Connell Fitzsimon son of late Christopher O’Connell Fitzsimon JP,
DL of Glencullen on 12.02.1896 at St Mary’s Priory, Chelsea, London. During the
period 1900 to 1931 the family lived at Moreen. Daniel give land to the council in
1904 and 8 workmen's cottages were built opposite the gatelodge of Moreen.
Daniel died 1948 and is buried in the family plot of St Patrick’s in Glencullen. Maude died
on 31.05.1958 aged 87 years at Glencullen House and is buried with her mother at
Kilternan Parish Cemetery.
1 Daughter FitzSimon died 16.10.1896 at Glencullen having only lived a few
minutes.
2 Son FitzSimon born 02.07.1897 at Glencullen.
3 Christopher Richard Manners O'Connor FitzSimon born 30.05.1898 at Glencullen
and baptised at Sandyford. He enlisted and attained the rank of captain with the
King's Own Royal Regiment. He married Gladys Eliott Killen, daughter of Dr W M
Killen of College Gardens, Belfast at Kensington, London in September 1931.
4 Richard Selby O’Connell FitzSimon born 26.10.1899 and died on 12.03.1900
aged 4½ months at Moreen.
5 Daniel Henry O’Connell FitzSimon born 26.11.1910
2 Walter Henry Manners MacFarlane born 05.02.1873 at Sterling, Dunshaughlin emigrated to
Australia. He married Doris Amy Rust at Victoria in 1923 and they had three children. Doris
died at Clonsilla, Warragul on 02.03.1911 and Walter died 10 Mar 1954 in Tasmania.
3 Charles Selby Lenox MacFarlane a Civil Engineer of 93 Clapham Park Road married
Isobel Yuill daughter of John Yuill on 13.12.1902 at St Michael’s Church, London.
Charles died on 23.07.1960 aged 95 years and Isobel died on 13.12.1964 aged 91
years. They are buried at Kilgobbin Cemetery.
2 Alicia Georgina McKay born 14.06.1849 at Moreen. Alicia was living at Lisbryan, Shinrone,
Tipperary in 1876.
3 Sarah Jane McKay born 04.07.1853 at Moreen married George Thomas Selby a Widower of
1 Eaton Square, London and Pinkney Park, Wiltshire, son of George Selbyon 23.04.1874 at St
Patrick’s Cathedral. George died on 26.03.1897 at the Cedars, Aylesford, Kent.
