William born circa 1862 in County Louth son of Stephen Kelly, an accountant with the Steam
Packet Company and his wife Elizabeth McEniry. William was a civil servant and married
Mary Catherine O’Hanlon on 9 Jul 1889 at St Joseph’s, Berkeley Road. Mary was the
daughter of the late Thomas O’Hanlon, a professor of music. William was living at 46
Blessington Street and Mary at 33 Goldsmith Street. William a civil servant clerk in 1901 and
living at Ellesmere Terrace, NCR, Glasnevin. He was a staff clerk in the R I C Office at Dublin
Castle and living at Walmer Sutton in 1911 and nine of their twelve children had survived.
They lived at Coolgarriff from 1916 to 1920 William died 19 Apr 1931 at 6 St Edward's Terrace,
Rathmines.
1 Mary Frances Kelly born 5 May 1890 at 14 Cabra Terrace.
2 Stephen Stanislaus Kelly eldest son born 11 Aug 1891 at 14 Cabra Terrace. He
joined the Christian brothers and became a teacher. On leaving the Christian
brothers in 1914 he trained as an architect. By 1919 he was in partnership with
Alfred Edwin Jones and they designed numerous buildings including the Church of
the Four Masters in Athlone, the Town Hall in Ballymena, the Technical School
(Coláiste Ráithín) on Florence Road in Bray and Cork City Hall. They also designed
the National Stadium on the SCR free of charge as both Stephen and Alfred Jones
had a love of amateur boxing and were on the board of trustees of the IABA.
Stephen married Elizabeth (Lily) Doyle on 4 Jul 1928 at Aughrim Street Church. Lily
was the daughter of the later Martin Doyle a merchant and was living on the NCR.
He was president of the Royal Institute of Architects in 1946. He died on
12 May 1951 at Coolgraney, Roebuck Road, Clonskeagh and was buried at Glasnevin.

4 Fergus Francis Kelly born 1 Jun 1895 at 1 Madeley Terrace, Clontarf. Fergus O’Kelly
joined the Irish Volunteers 1913 and then the IRB, Stafford Prison, Frongoch. He was
an engineering student the University of Ireland. He was instructed to occupy the
Wireless School opposite the GPO in 1916 and to get the wireless set working so that
they could broadcast news about the Rising had begun. Fergus O'Kelly managed to
transmit the world's first radio news broadcast during the Easter Rising. He was
arrested and sent to Richmond Barrack, then Stafford Barracks in England. He was
interned in Frongoch prison camp and released in August 1916. O’Kelly rejoined the
Volunteers and participated in the War of Independence, during which he
manufactured explosives, attempted to intercept British wireless communications
and took part in an attack on British forces in Terenure in January, 1921. He fought
in the republican garrison in Jameson’s Distillery at the beginning of the Civil War. He
was arrested in December 1922 and interned until March 1924. He completed his
degree in electrical and mechanical engineering and worked on the Shannon
electrification scheme. He was interviewed by RTE in 1965.

9 Nessan Sylvester Kelly born 21 Dec 1906 at Walmer Villa, Howth. He was an
army officer living at Charleville Road, Rathmines and married Eileen Agnes
Kinsella at Westland Row on 6 May 1943. Eileen was the daughter of Thomas
Kinsella, a farmer.
