Robert McDonnell born circa 1803 married Caroline Mary Sharp on 21 Aug 1833 at St Mary’s Parish*.
Robert took a lease on an acre of land in 1858 on Grove Avenue (Verschoyles lane) and built two
houses. He lived at Grove Avenue from circa 1855 to 1887 and had 2 house to let on the Avenue.
Caroline died 26 May 1863 at Grove Avenue. Robert died on 5 Jan 1887 at Grove Avenue and was
buried at Stillorgan Graveyard.
1 Sarah Sharp McDonnell born circa 1839 died a spinster on 17 Mar 1914 at Fairview. She
was buried at Stillorgan Graveyard and left 2K in personal estate.
2 Jane (Janie) McDonnell, daughter married Henry Robert Murray, youngest son of Captain
William Henry Murray 3 Feb 1862 at St Mary’s Donnybrook. Janie was the niece of Rev
Humphry Evatt of Carrickmacross and Henry was a commercial traveller.

3 Caroline Evatt (Carrie) McDonnell, third daughter married Thomas Wheatley of Dundalk
son of James Wheatley, a merchant at Booterstown parish church on 10 Nov 1862.
Caroline was the niece of Rev Humphrey Evatt of Monaghan. Thomas was a flour agent
and they lived in Newry from 1865 to 1876. Thomas died at Sandy's Street, Newry on
9 Aug 1918.

4 Kathleen McDonnell born circa 1845 married Isaac Henry Mathers, a cashier/bookkeeper,
son of Francis Mathers, a shopkeeper at Stillorgan Parish Church on 14 Dec 1868. The
Mathers family were based as Hill Street, Newry and were engaged in the shoe and boot
trade at Hill Street. They moved to Novia Scotia, Canada in 1870 and had at least four
children. They lived at 89 Victoria Road, Halifax. Kathleen got ill and travelled to New York
for treatment, returning in February 1904. She died at Halifax on 15 Apr 1904 and was
buried at Camp Hill cemetery.

25 Aug 1870. He died 27 Feb 1880 and was buried at Stillorgan graveyard.

Terrace married Mary Josephine Murray of 3 Upper Prince Edward Terrace,
Blackrock and daughter of Charles Murray at St Joseph’s RC Church Enniscorthy, Co
Wexford on 2 Aug 1899. Robert was a clerk in a gas company. In 1911 Mary and her
two children were lodging at a house in Bray and Robert was boarding in
Morehampton Road, Donnybrook.

6 John McDonnell born circa 1853 in Blackrock and emigrated to the United States. He married
Agnes Elizabeth Wrayton, daughter of Michael and Maria Wrayton of Emerald Isle, Novia Scotia at
Chelsea, Massachusetts on 7 Jul 1881. They moved to Yarmouth, Novia Scotia and they had at
least nine children.
7 Evatt McDonnell born circa 1855, a commercial traveller living at 110 Seville Place, Dublin. He
married Maria Thackaberry, daughter of Benjamin and Maria Thackaberry and Derryview, Co
Wexford at Clontarf Church on 21 Apr 1875. Maria's address was given as Danesfort, Clontarf, the
address of the Rector (Rev J Pratt) who married them. The moved to Syracuse, New York circa 1885
and had further children.

Church Dublin (Schulz Register). He was an auctioneer of 14 Bachelor’s Walk from 1832. John died
2 May 1839 and was buried at Mount Jerome.

Church.
2 Emily McDonnell born circa 1831 of 15 Bachelors Walk married Nathaniel Gamble Fisher son of
James Fisher, a merchant at St George’s Church Dublin on 15 April 1852. Nathaniel was a draper
of Kingstown and they had at least eleven children. Emily died at Rathdown Hospital late of 31
Lower George’s Street on 19 Dec 1877.
1 Sydney Fisher, third daughter died at 31 Lower George’s Street in Kingstown on
12 Aug 1876 and was buried at Mount Jerome.
Nathaniel, a widower and wine merchant of 59 Lower Dominick Street secondly married Sarah
Jane Delap daughter of James Delap at Registry Office, Dublin on 29 Apr 1885. Nathaniel died at
the Old Men's Asylum, Northbrook Road on 1 Jul 1901.

5 Anne Evatt McDonnell born circa 1836 of 15 Bachelors walk married Ephraim Parke Wheatley, a
merchants Clerk of 47 Mary’s Street and 32 Cullenswood Avenue, son of James Wheatley a
shopkeeper at St Mary’s Church Dublin on 1 Jul 1857. They had at least 7 children. Ephraim was a
managing partner in Messrs Todd Byrnes & Co and died 28 Dec 1881 aged 48.
1 Annie Wheatley married William Hewat, only son of Thomas Duxbury Hewat and Alice
Jane Hendrie on 16 Nov 1892 in Rathmines. William was the Chairman of Heitons
Coal and Steel Company from 1915 to 1935 having been a director since 1900. He was
also an independent member of Dail Eireann from 1923 to 1927. William died on
15 May 1935 at his home Ardlui aged 70 years and Annie died 7 Apr 1958 at Merrion
Road, Dublin.
6 Caroline Evatt McDonnell, youngest daughter born circa 1840 of 15 Bachelors walk married John
Clegg Singleton, of 35 Longwood Avenue and eldest son of Robert Singleton, a clerk with Bank of
Ireland at St Mary’s Church, Dublin on 5 Jul 1864. John was a warehouse man, and manager of a
wholesale warehouse by 1870. He died 2 Feb 1872 at 55 Belgrave Square aged 34 and was buried
at Mount Jerome. Caroline moved to Melifont Avenue Kingstown where she was still living in 1901.
It is thought that they had six children of whom 4 were still alive in 1911. Caroline died 12 Mar 1927.

1848. Richard died 4 Feb 1864 aged 78 in North Dublin aged 78. Sarah died at 15 Bachelors Walk on
23 Jan 1865 and both were buried at Mount Jerome.
1 Elizabeth Ridge born circa 1841 married Brabazon Sanders, a book-keeper of Suffolk
Street and son of Brabazon Sanders, a hotel keeper at Trinity Church, Rathmines on
2 Jul 1867. Elizabeth was the only daughter of Richard Ridge.
* Thomas Phillips Sharp’s (witness at marriage), was a merchant tailor of 10 South Frederick Street. His wife
Sarah (1777-1856) is buried at Stillorgan graveyard.
