Robert Crawford Mayne born circa 1811 son of Robert Waller Mayne and his wife Sarah.
He married Susan Kellett on 3 Aug 1842. Susan was the daughter of Robert Kellett of
Waterstown, Co Meath. They lived at Grenville Street/Gloucester Street and had at least
eight children. Robert lectured on the ‘Practice of Medicine’ in the Carmichael School.
Robert died on 7 Apr 1863 aged 53 and was buried at Mount Jerome. Susan died
28 Feb 1879 at Evergreen Lodge, Ballybrack, the residence of her son. A memorial to
Robert and Susan was erected at St Patrick’s Cathedral in 1894 by their son James at the
behest of Mary Jane Armstrong.
1 Robert St John Mayne eldest son born 24 June 1843 at Grenville Street baptised at
St George’s. He married Margaret Elizabeth Pilkington on 8 Aug 1865 at Carbury
Church, Co Kildare. Margaret was the daughter of Frederick Pilkington. Robert
was a surgeon at the Meath Hospital and a lecturer in anatomy at The Carmichael
School of Medicine. Robert died from small pox on 16 Dec 1871 aged 28.
Margaret secondly married John Arthur Cooper Ormsby in 1875 and have a
further two daughters.
1 May Josephine Sedborough Mayne eldest daughter married (double
wedding) Surgeon Captain William Henry Edward Woodwright on
14 Oct 1892 at Carbury Church, Kildare. William was the son of Colonel
Charles Patrick Woodwright.
2 Aida Constance Mayne second daughter born 4 May 1868 at 8 Rutland
Square married Arthur Forde Pilson on 14 Jan 1905 at Drumcondra Church.
Arthur was a major in the Royal Dublin Fusiliers and the son of Conway
Pilson. They were living in Downpatrick, Co Down in 1911. No issue found.
3 Florence Ethel Mayne youngest daughter born 27 Jul 1869 at 8 Rutland
Square married (double wedding) Smith Ramage Ramage of Chamberstown,
Co Westmeath on 14 Oct 1892 at Carbury Church, Kildare. Less than a
month later, Smith died from typhoid fever at Portman Square London on
5 Nov 1892 aged 32. His body was repatriated and he was buried in the
Ramadge family grave at Mount Jerome. Florence secondly married John
Hall in 1899.
2 Charles Crawford Mayne born 3 June 1844 at 29 Grenville Street baptised at St
George’s was an MD. He married Maryanne Madeline (Madeline) Harris on
5 Apr 1870 at St George’s Church. Maryanne was the daughter of Hugh Harris,
a barrister. They lived at Evergreen Lodge, Ballybrack before moving to Ridge
Hall, Ballybrack in 1885. Charles died in Kingstown on 6 Jun 1901. Madeline was
living at Bournemouth in 1921 and died there on 20 Jan 1932.

2 Ernest Francis Mayne born 15 Jul 1873 at Ballybrack.
3 Eileen Mayne born 17 Apr 1875 at Evergreen Lodge, Ballybrack, was
a spinster living with her mother in Bournemouth in 1921.
4 Harold Ringwood Mayne born circa 1877 was a stock brokers clerk in
1901. He married Florence Emily Pim in 1903.
5 Charlotte Madeline (Madeline) Mayne born circa 1878 married Charles
Hearn in 1910.
6 Lucy Susan Fanny Mayne youngest daughter born 18 Dec 1879 at
Evergreen Lodge. Lucy married Captain Harry Kellett Oakes Oakes of
the Canadian Mounted Rifles in May 1914. Harry was the son of Lt Col
Frederick Aston and Anna Selina Oakes of Bournemouth. They had a child
which Harry which never got to see as he was killed in action on
8 Dec 1915 and was buried at Maple Leaf Cemetery, Belgium.

3 Pelham Edward Mayne third son born 29 October 1845 at Grenville Street
baptised at St George’s. He died at Dalkey aged 16 on 18 Oct 1861.
4 Mary Jane Mayne born circa 1847 married John Ringwood on 26 April 1871 at
St George’s Dublin. John was an MD of Moynaulty, Co Meath and the son of
Henry Taylor Ringwood, MD. They lived at The Villa, Moynaulty and had at
least three children.
1 Violet Mayne Ringwood eldest daughter born 29 Mar 1872 married
Thomas Pim Hogg of Craigmore, Blackrock on 28 Oct 1903 at St Ann’s
Dublin. The later lived at Grove House, Foxrock. Thomas died in 1911
and Violet secondly married Graham H Darbyshire on 8 Nov 1913.

5 Sarah Mayne, second daughter born circa 1848 died at Gloucester Street on
21 Jan 1855.
6 James Francis Mayne fourth son born circa 15 Dec 1849 at Upper Gloucester
Street in Dublin baptised at St Thomas’. He was resident at Ballybrack and
married Alice Watte on 27 Apr 1876 at Monkstown Church. The service was
performed by the Rev Robert Stavely. Alice was the daughter Abraham and
Margaret Watte of London. James was a civil servant and staff office with the
Local Government Board. Alice attended the Julian Academy in Paris and
studied under Tony Robert-Fleury and Jules Joseph Lefebvre. She was a painter
and exhibited with the RHA. They lived at Mount Anville Lodge from 1878 to
1900 and by 1901 they were living in The Chalet, Westminster Road, Foxrock.
In 1907 Alice and James presented a chalice to Holy Trinity Church Killiney in
memory of the Rev Robert Stavely. James died 17 Feb 1907 at Foxrock and was
buried at Mount Jerome. The following year Alice exhibited a painting of her
husband at the Paris Salon. In 1908 Alice and her daughter presented a
stained glass window in memory of James to Tullow Church. The window was
made at Sarah Purser's studio and designed and executed by Beatrice Elvery.
It has two lights and depicts the return of the Prodigal Son and the Good
Samaritan. Alice died at Dun Laoghaire on 7 Jun 1932.

spinster living at Clarinda Park as a boarder with her mother in 1911.
2 Mabel Watt Mayne born 1881 at 51 Percy Place. Mabel died at Bath
from brain fever on 27 Aug 1899 late of Mount Anville Lodge and was
buried at Mount Jerome.
